Ehxsur's Jones vs. Gane Mega Thread of Random Thoughts

Great fighter, make no mistake. Athletic and skilled, but his wrestling did get exposed by Ngannou, and badly.

I was in a fight (long time ago) and it took 3 days for the bruises to surface.

Immediate post fight pics of "the damage" mean little to nothing.
Also visible bruising and cuts don't exactly always represent how much something hurts or damage done.
I've been cut and bruised from things I've laughed at, and had things that made me nearly cry that are unnoticeable.

This is a huge fight and don't be surprised if Jon cheats his ass off and gets away with it.
It's the thing I fear. For every eye poke, I'll forgive one of Gane's signature back-of-the head finishing shots - not that I think it's voluntary, but when it gets messy, and he goes all-in power wise, he's understandably losing precision. He's not a cheater, but a few hammerfists have been a bit clumsy, needlessly because when he's at that stage, the fight is already over.
It's like one of the reflex shot by Burns against Chimaev, after the knockdown, it gets messy, things are moving fast, and unfortunate things happen.

He can def knock Jon out. Jones relies on his chin a little too much at times

To be fair, it would've been strange to expect otherwise from Gane. His fighting background is exclusively striking, and only for a few years ; Then MMA, where he didn't face any wrestling threat before the title shot. He learned basic grappling things, submitted a few (he won his first two UFC fights by submission), maybe basic TDD, but his footwork, elusiveness, and striking skills were just enough.
It's obvious he isn't expecting to fight Jones and then have a muay thai bout. He's preparing, while Jones is probably working to retrieve his true level. Age, inactivity, and not taking steroids are probably tough obstacles, but what if he does it ? And what if Gane is the fighting prodigy some of us think he is, and actually became good enough to avoid the wrestlefucking ? They are both running against time, in different direction, different dynamics, but that fight is extremely unpredictable.

Gane could destroy Jones, and everyone would say, of course, what did you expect ?
The contrary might happen, with the exact same reactions.

I often says that time flies and moan about it, but I'd take a flight to Saturday ASAP if I could.
What's terrible is that the main card starts at 4AM here, and I'm supposed to work that day. I'll be negotiating tomorrow to have those days off.

I do realize how good Gane is, which is why I don't see much of a chance for Jones.

He got dropped in his last fight, and lost the fight before that, and those aren't even the ones where his face is marked up, so cosmetic damage isn't really the best indicator. Askren didn't have any visible damage after getting flying knee KO'd and was unconscious for like 30 seconds.

That's not what "panic wrestling" looks like to me. More like tactical wrestling.
A guy with no wrestling background whose only other TD in his 13 previous UFC fights was a scramble in a clinch he didn't initiate, just decided to implement "tactical wrestling" for the first time in his career when he was getting outstruck.

I just want to say what a great post illustrating exactly how others like myself feel about this fight.

Jon isn’t a dumb fighter. He will sit on Cyril and neutralise all the danger.

Gane is really good but he has never faced someone as game and as evil as Jones.

And watch out: if Jones is back for good, would be a long night for the frenchman.

Could you explain what you mean by evil and how that will affect the fight?

So good he got out wrestled by a boxer, imagine Jones taking him down.

Gane's previous opponents just wanted to win. Jones will fight to hurt him and break him. With a skillset and a will that Gane has never faced before.

Here is the difference

You could very well be right, Jones is not as big with devastating one punch power like Ngannou as far as we know at HW.

We really don't know what difference if any Jones will bring to HW, but we do know he has beaten a record number of UFC champions and HOF'ers and Gane has not fought anyone near that caliber and has shown not to be a very smart fighter against a much lower level of competition, but that doesn't mean he is not capable.

Gane went and had a firefight with Tuivasa
anybody discounting the dog in him is a peabrain

That's the feeling i have reading sherdog these past few days

When is the next time nobody believed in a fighter like that and the fighter actualy upset the world and won?

Silva vs Weidman 1 maybe? I think i remember people seeing Weidman win but i'm not sure
