To be fair, it would've been strange to expect otherwise from Gane. His fighting background is exclusively striking, and only for a few years ; Then MMA, where he didn't face any wrestling threat before the title shot. He learned basic grappling things, submitted a few (he won his first two UFC fights by submission), maybe basic TDD, but his footwork, elusiveness, and striking skills were just enough.
It's obvious he isn't expecting to fight Jones and then have a muay thai bout. He's preparing, while Jones is probably working to retrieve his true level. Age, inactivity, and not taking steroids are probably tough obstacles, but what if he does it ? And what if Gane is the fighting prodigy some of us think he is, and actually became good enough to avoid the wrestlefucking ? They are both running against time, in different direction, different dynamics, but that fight is extremely unpredictable.
Gane could destroy Jones, and everyone would say, of course, what did you expect ?
The contrary might happen, with the exact same reactions.
I often says that time flies and moan about it, but I'd take a flight to Saturday ASAP if I could.
What's terrible is that the main card starts at 4AM here, and I'm supposed to work that day. I'll be negotiating tomorrow to have those days off.
