Educate me on PRIDE..

The opening video to Final Conflict 2006 basically embodied Pride to me. At times it was art. I suggest you watch all the events in order from it's infancy to it's demise. Watch the good with the bad. It was a hell of a ride.

People try to dismiss it now but Pride was special.

The openings to PRIDE we like no other. That drum beating, lady screaming peoples names for entrances, and all the fighters standing on the stage before the event started, just absolutely sick.

I've seen 95% of all the PRIDE fights, only a few events I don't own. Spent so many hours and I don't regret it at all, I only wish I was an MMA fan while PRIDE was still in business! (Started watching MMA in 2010)

I found the openings interesting once or twice.

But whenever I tried to show my friends, after about 45minutes into the intro everyone is impatient and like "so when do the fights start"

They are neat, but too drawn out for me....

Lol at people ITT not thinking pride had lnp or boring fights.

It was a great promotion. But had many, many flaws.

Of course it had some LnP but it wasn't nearly as common because judges didn't base the decision primarily on positioning like they do in the UFC.

I know exactly what you mean. I caught Pride predominantly at the tail end around early 2006 when I started getting back into MMA. I only wish I'd done it sooner.

Sign up for fight pass and watch all the Best Of Pride shows.

Then watch the Grand Prix tournaments just because

Just start at #1. Pretend you have never seen fighting and that you want to know what style is the best. Be ready for pomp and circumstance, smart fans, and some freakshow fights. You'll be entertained and see some surprisingly underrated/forgotten wars. (And yes, you'll get bored sometimes. That's how fighting works)

The best way is the watch the whole events. Go out of your way to get them and watch them in their entirety if possible, at least the big events or you'll never understand how good pride really was. Watching fights on youtube doesnt capture what the events were like when watching them on ppv.

pretty sure this is an ego thread. i doubt TS is going to actually watch what people post. all the threads saying, 'teach me about x' are ego threads.

TS's only other post in this thread was 'i've seen x fight, it was a good fight' No acknowledgement of any of the other fights, affirmation he will look at the fights people posted or appreciation for people taking the time to post. you guys are wasting your time 'educating' this guy lol

all of fedor fights aside the first 2 ones that could be a bit boring

Still was better. UFC was better and so was Strikeforce. Now we got boring UFC. Watered down cards midgets and women fighting.

PRIDE had plenty of its own issues at the time too. Nostalgia might cover those up, but it doesn't make them non-existent. MMA hasn't changed anywhere near as much as everyone wants to believe.

The gomi nick diaz fight. And both wand page fights. Lil evil was a badass. Ken shamrock. Don frye. Shogun. Skinny reem. Go watch everything man, most of it is pretty solid

PRIDE had some excellent fights and some very entertaining "WTF" fights. PRIDE also had no fear when it came to changing up the rules for entertainment sake/ truly special events.

Case and point: Sakuraba vs Royce Gracie. Royce got the rules he wanted and Sakuraba beat the crap out of him anyways.

PRIDE had a bunch of funky and weird shit. But in true Japanese spirit, the weird shit was for entertainment sake. Was Giant Silva's career anything more than a freak show? No. But dammit it made for some fun moments. And people say "ohhh I only want solid fights". PRIDE cards were stacked with them and generally had many more fights on the main card than UFC cards. They mixed in the freak show with legitimate fights.

Frye vs Takayama with epic sound effects.

I dare you not to laugh.

And that's actually the best way to sum up Pride:

An epic video game with larger-than-life characters.
