Edmen needs to slow down his career a bit

yeah i agree, man is fighting straight killers. however if he had beaten Jack he wouldve been given the megapush again lol.

Shehbazyan has a lot of talent and potential, he is just in such a garbage camp, that his career will probably end up wasted unfortunately. Shame too, cause that weight class could use 1 or 2 new faces to start making their way to the top to mix it up a little more.

He looked like he was ready for the top guys after he KO'd Tavares. Tavares went the distance with Romero and Adesanya. Only Whittaker had blasted him out before.

But yeah, he definitely needs to slow things down. He's got serious issues with cardio and pacing. Looks amazing in the first round and then gets increasingly sloppy as the fight wears on.

It doesn't help that he's built like he should be fighting at 170.

Physically, he looks like absolute shit at 185 (and probably trains at exactly the same weight). His opponents are probably a good 20 pounds heavier than he is when the bell rings. It's kind of dumbfounding.

Then again, with a coach like Tarverdyan, I'm surprised he hasn't been thrown to the Heavyweights.
This . I think his biggest problem is he’s too physically weak for 185. He’s built too slight and not strong vs those behemoths . Not saying his cardio is good but anybody’s cardio would be tested against middleweight behemoths . It’s not like he’s getting out techniqued . Just steam rolled . He should go to 170.

He needs a real gym. GFC is hot garbage.

Kings mma is 40 mins away
Good luck with that, hasn't Edmund the fraud been training him for quite awhile now? That and loyalty due to them both being Armenians. It'd be a pretty hard task for Edmen to ditch GFC unless maybe people in his immediate family tell him to ditch Edmund.

He needs to retire and do something else in my opinion. I doubt he will. I don't understand the sentiment from some fans that someone in their 20s should stick with a job they clearly are incompetent at. His last 2 fights have been devastating to his health. He gave a pro mma career a try and at didn't work for him. No shame in that

This a bad take.

A) He EXTREMELY competent. He smokes slot if good fighters on his way up. Losing to the # 10 and # 5 guy in the world doesn’t mean he is bad

B) He is very young in his athletic career. He at least 5 year before he reaches his prime.

Yep, it's the Armenian tribalism that gym exploits that will prevent shahbazyan from leaving.

100 %.

Even Hermansson didn't look that great tonight. He's lost a step or two. Maybe it was just a bad night.

However, anyone who's rolled knows what they saw. Hermansson just muscled his way through Edmen.

I'm afraid this is the truth, unfortunately. Especially for a kid as young as he is.

In your early 20s, you're extremely malleable. ESPECIALLY by someone who can claim to have trained one of the all-time greats in MMA.

Guaranteed that Tarverdyan is one of those pieces of shit who puts EVERYTHING on the fighter after a loss. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he's chewing out his fighter in the locker room right now for 'Not following instructions'.

A good coach (like any good leader) knows when he has a weakness and does his best to try to fix it. Tarverdyan is not a good coach.

I agree but to take it a step further, Armenians are an extremely closed off group of people. Meaning they really stick to their own. I wouldn't be surprised if he left the gym that he would face some ex communication from family and friends. Definitely would weigh on a person's mind.

Needs a real gym with REAL coaches. the guy has potential, but shit cardio and no wrestling ain't going to help him in MW less in WW.

I think it's pretty silly to say that his current gym hasn't done well for him, clearly his hands are very very good and he has a quality skill set
He became a top 10 ufc fighter with his current gym, clearly they have developed his skills properly in some capacity

No... just no. There are other fighters you see no progress in with striking(or regression), and then there is Ronda, trying to turn a grappler/submission fighter into a striker, and failing BADLY. There also hasnt been any progress to Edmen's striking, gameplanning, cardio, spacing, ect imo, which is either poor coaching or fighter stubbornness. With the other examples, I feel pretty comfortable pointing to the camp

Kinda agree ..but it's not all that easy to know who's an easy or a hard fight until after.
Before Brunson beat all these up and comers I saw a lot of fans not giving him any respect and rating Brunson as someone that wasn't that hard to beat.

Heck, a while ago people might've said "Give him a lower ranked guy, someone like Vettori" .

if you gave him someone like Akhmedov and he turns out to be the next big deal people would be saying that was also "throwing him to the wolves" cause he's not old, if you give him a vet like KG or Weidman and they win and have a resurgence that would seem bad too.

See, I honestly derive a bit of schadenfreude from his failure. Both because he was touted as this new generation of fighters who are superior because they don't start with specialty but rather learn MMA as its own discipline. And because Dana really liked him, and Dana always like strikers and never likes wrestlers and I resent that so when someone beats a Dana favorite with wrestling I get all giddy.

But seriously? OP is just right. He'll already probably take a weaker fight next because he's dropping in the rankings. But he should just take a serious break, go to a strong wrestling gym and work on his grappling, the rest of his game is there.

Edmen after a year in AKA would be a straight up savage.
