Eddie Alvarez vs Prime Takanori Gomi

The difference is their chins. Prime Gomi had an cast iron jaw. Eddie always gets rocked in all his fights.

Alvarez literally just added body punching to his arsenal, something Gomi mastered in 2005
You're clearly a new fan, Eddie has been a body beater for a decade. He hit Curran with over 100

If we're talking about 2005 Gomi and 2005 Alvarez, Gomi would win.

Gomi's weakness during his prime is his submission defense which is not something Alvarez can capitalize on. They'd likely fight each other like they fought Kawajiri, and is a fistfight that favors Gomi as Alvarez was dropped practically every fight during the GP.

Prime Gomi would have KTFO'd Eddie like vs. Luiz Azevedo.

Gomi might be the most overrated fighter in history.
Why you say that? Is it because he's Asian? Or is it because he's lost bunch of fights in a row? I'm talking about prime pride fc Gomi.

Eddie's wrestling could have been key here, but the ring would have made it harder to implement. If he wanted to go blow for blow with Gomi, which could have easily happened, given eddie's style,i don't think it would have ended well for him. Gomi prevailed in those situations.

Wtf was with that finish on Acevedo? That seemed totally douchy
Fight highlight starts @1:52
See for yourself on why gomi kept attacking the Brazilian even tho the Brazilian fighter was out stiff.

Isn't gomi a natural 145er? Iirc most of the so called lightweight in pride were 145ers.

The concept of time is beyond many UFC viewers.

Gomi was bigger than a lot of the other lightweights in pride.

Lightweight in pride was around 160 something I think. On twitch, Jens pulver said Gomi was pretty damn big back in the pride days. Well, Jens was always a small lightweight, he fought at 125 before. I always thought Gomi could go down to 145 in his UFC days just by looking at his body type.

What's that, 2009 then? Gomi was still way ahead of the curve and a uniquely shitty matchup for Alvarez considering how hard he punched, how tirelessly he worked, and how hard he was to hurt in his prime.

So wrong, Gomi is a easy matchup for Eddie.. Eddie ONLY struggles with guys that have a lot of reach on him and have elite technique at the same time. No one his height or reach. Gomi has shit technique, Eddie would pick him apart with ease or take him down at will if he had to.

It wouldn't be a competitive fight, Gomi was a can crushing inigma. He doesn't touch any of that current top 10

Gomi was never at any point In his career a better body shot guy. In 09 Eddie was 25, Gomi was 25 in 03, compare them at developmental age not what year it was.
