Eddie Alvarez on MMA vs Boxing

Yes mma is more realistic but that shouldn't diminish boxing in any way. When people say boxing isn't a fight I find that fucking hilarious. They are still Beating each other to death.

And no one seems to say that about kickboxing even tho using that logic it falls under the same thing.

I’m a huge fan of boxing and it’s where my love
for combat sports started. I don’t see how stating that boxing is more limited then MMA and that MMA is a closer representation to actual “combat” is diminishing boxing. It’s simply a fact.

I don't think boxing fans appreciate that after being KO'd if Askren had said fuck it and did the Khabib thing there's nothing Paul could have done to stop him. When you know the loser could beat the shit outta winner in a non controlled environment it kind of feels like pro wrestling.

Yes it is a fact, but saying that its not a fight is where I draw the line.

These were the agreed upon rules. The oppurtunity for preperation is there, and Askren simply did not have to take the fight also.

Fucking lol.

Bring 10 journeyman heavyweight mma fighters vs top 10 lightweights or in this case top 200 lightweights. And fight to death. Who wins?

Such a tough guy Eddie

No kidding...fuck this manlet and his randomly capitalization.

Honestly I feel Askren didn't know what he was getting himself into. He did that wrestling thing with an elite wrestler that no one watched and lost so he might have viewed it like that. I don't think he knew this was going to be a cultural thing(which tbf would confuse someone in their 30s) until it was too late.

Like he said "if Paul has any boxing talent I will lose", well if he'd done his research about his coaches he'd have realized he did have some level of boxing talent. He was assuming Paul was an idiot who "is too stupid to learn anything" and that was his downfall. I don't think he thought this through he said multiple times he thought it'd be a nice excuse to stay in shape.

Perhaps. My point is just that you cant use this excuse that "oh in a street fight or a mma fight such and such would kill him and so any other result is pro wrestling"

They have all the time in the world to prepare themselves for a boxing fight if they are taking it seriously, and if they feel like they are at that much of a disadvantage they just dont have to take it. I understand these kind of fights leave a bad taste in people's mouths, but its on them for taking the fight in a sport they are not skilled in...with predictable results.

I mean it's an excuse but not all excuses are bs or created equal just because they are excuses. We know the excuse is accurate..

And yeah Askren taking it was irresponsible for so many reasons first among that he was literally famous for his inability to box. Tbh in hindsight he deserves more blame for taking it than Paul does for cherry picking him cause Paul was considering better strikers and is now agreeing to fight Woodley.

Seeing Woodley in his last fight,he looked pretty bad. He will probably take it seriously but mentally and physically Woodley seems to be shot. I wish him luck.

I thought he looked good. He looked bad before that but he was fighting the 3 best guys in the division and I believe anyone else at WW who fights those 3 would have been 0-3 as well.

he looked better than his other fights, but thats not saying much. He fought like a man with his back against the wall, but had no defense at all, which is how he got caught, and he had no recovery from that.

Ive known a few boxers that would straight merk dudes in street fights, like with the quickness.

Ive seen mma dudes get fucked up in street fights too, so its not as plain as saying mma is better cause it has less rules. Its all about application, and every case is different.

It is very common for MMA players to get KTFO on the mean streets by average guys. Boxers usually can take 5-7 assailants no problem with their superior footwork and courage.

Boxing is a sport.

MMA is not.

If it was, Fat Beast wouldn't be sniffing a championship.

Athletes don't MMA
