Eddie Alvarez on MMA vs Boxing

Fury chats alot of crap and says alot of things it's not actually gonna happen . How much would he make fighting ngannou in the octagon? Exactly. How much would he make fighting Joshua? Enough to feed the next 3 fury generations
Exactly.
So when a Boxer says it they're just chatting crap, but when an MMA fighter does it, they're broke and desperate... you're a Boxing guy and that's fine, but don't come in saying you love both sports and it's about respect, then rattle off all the pro Boxing arguments

I made this thread to point out MMA is more effective in self defense situations, a point that sounds obvious, but many people actually don't agree, so it's worth talking about occasionally

Mma fans are so defensive jeez. Ofcourse a boxer loses he has no experience in other disciplines of fighting. Well done Einstein.
It's crazy you don't realize that you're the one being defensive, if anyone mentions MMA being better for self-defense Boxing guys freak out and call you insecure, and defensive..... YOU'RE BEING DEFENSIVE lol

I've watched more ufc over the last 5 years then boxing. But elite level boxers make more then elite level ufc fighters. That's not even an argument. It's literally mcgregor and that's it who makes anything close to joshua/canelo/floyd money the next ufc ppv fighter after conor is who? Exactly.

Are u quoting every one of my posts. I'm stating facts. You can't stick a boxer in the octagon with no experience just to suit your argument. It would only be fair if they learn other aspects of fighting for years first. Simple argument. It's not hard to understand is it?

This is a stupid thread because it cherry picks situations.

If an mma fighter were on the street, someone would either break a bottle over his head, get his eye gouged out or get kicked in the face if he tried to apply an armbar. See how easy that is?

You wanna go over all the times boxers have come into mma and been embarrassed?? How well did Mayorga do in mma during boxing career? He went 0-3 and got subbed twice by low level fighters. And that in amateur promotions lol.

Why not mention how mma fighters have gone into boxing and been successful?? How about Joe Duffy going 7-0. Clay Collard is doing mma and boxing and 9-4. Ryan Ford has been strictly focusing on boxing past 7 years and 17-6. Terry Martin went 5-1, Allesio Sakara went 8-1. And there is many more that have winning records.

How about listing mma fighters who have actually done well bozo. Oh, that's right. All you know about is Askren and Sylvia.

Some terrible examples there jeez.

I know they do buddy, I know, thank you for telling me like the 1000000 Boxing fans that say this every day

I'm not surprised you watch more MMA considering in MMA actually competitive fights happen more than once every 5 years

Mayorga was 38 when he did a few mma fights and Toney was 40. Both went back to boxing after and continued for years. They weren't in their prime, but don't make em out to be some bums that just did it after boxing.

There aren't any boxers like that who crossed in their prime. But I did list several mma fighters that went into boxing and did fine.

Before you criticize my argument perhaps look at who I am quoting. His point was around Penn in a streetfight, Tim Sylvia and Ben Askren.

Being past your physical prime then entering a new sport it doesn't take a genius to work out how it would end? Are u actually that stupid? Some of the examples u have in the other post are hilarious just to suit your narrative.

100 other people have made the same point, doesn't mean it's worthless to know how to defend yourself just because you can get shot lol

Boxing is a mess but it's too much of a complex argument it's the promoters fault mainly. Ufc is one organisation in mma and its easier to make fights obvs. I would like boxing to have one belt and one organisation but it won't ever happen now. There's way more boxers and organisations out there too then mma fighters so it's hard to do.

I really hope English isn't your first language

Where did I say it’s worthless learning how to defend yourself?
You said if an MMA fighter was in the street they'd just get a bottle broken over their head... implying it doesn't matter that they know MMA because they'll just get hit with a weapon

Alot of mma fans mock boxing just look all across social media. They also are boxing casuals who don't understand the history of boxing and have no understanding of the sport itself.

It always comes from people who have never set foot in the ring or cage - which unfortunately, thanks to MMA’s comparatively casual fanbase, is most MMA fans.

As far as single combat sports go, boxing is up there with the very most effective in a real life situation. It’s just brutally efficient. It’s treated by a large portion of casual MMA fans in a bizarre manner that seems to equate it with Kung Fu or some eastern martial art based loosely on dance choreography. Ironically, it’s literally the most opposite to that.

As far as single combats go I agree it's up there, nobody in MMA equates Boxing with Kung Fu lol

The point is you need to train everything to a degree if you want to be prepared for a real life self defense situation

A reminder that Jiu-Jitsu, and Wrestling are still very useful even if weapons are involved

Almost all of this choreographed ‘how to deal with an armed attacker’ stuff is 100% bullshit. The reality is, if a guy has a blade and you decide to grapple with him, there’s a very high chance he’s going to slide that in between your ribs.

You MIGHT have a chance with a striking art, in the sense that if you could react quickly you could hit him and get out, but as soon as someone brings out a knife the smart thing to do is get out of there, or de-escalate anyway you can.
