Eddie Alvarez on MMA vs Boxing

Boxing is more of a refined sport, MMA has a lot of variables and you don’t even need grappling to really make it to the top... it would depend on if the MMA athlete could wrestle to be honest

Not sure what you mean. You say you don't need grappling but it depends if he could wrestle?

I’ve always viewed MMA combat as a fight and boxing as a sport. MMA is just the closest representation to a “real” fight that we will see.

Wonder how long before someone tells me “NO NO . It’s not a real fight!!!! in the streets we crush dicks with kicks and have guns!”

Yes mma is more realistic but that shouldn't diminish boxing in any way. When people say boxing isn't a fight I find that fucking hilarious. They are still Beating each other to death.

And no one seems to say that about kickboxing even tho using that logic it falls under the same thing.

If you have no grappling you'd be taken down and subbed in your first match

{<huh}

You don't have to be a grappler or be a mat wizard but you have to have better than average grappling to make it.

I think he's more or less right. Way back in UFC 4 (1994) there was a decent, well-built (maybe juiced) boxer named Melton Bowen. He fought Steve Jennum, a cop who trained in ninjitsu part-time (no lie, though they learned some grappling and submission). Jennum handled him pretty easily and had the first arm-bar submission in MMA. Fast forward 27 years and I think most any MMA fighter beats a comparable boxer outside of an occasional flash KO.

Fucking lol.

Bring 10 journeyman heavyweight mma fighters vs top 10 lightweights or in this case top 200 lightweights. And fight to death. Who wins?

Such a tough guy Eddie

What?...

R u suggesting boxing lightweights would beat MMA heavyweights in an open combat fight to the death?...

The fuck r u on?...

D.C would Litterally throw someone over his head
..and onto there own neck..paralyzed if not dead on impact..

There are levels to it though, a BJJ match is a fight, but it is less of one than Boxing or Kickboxing, doesn't take away from any of those sports, but MMA should be respected as the most intense combat sport out there

A lot of MMA guys work their way up to MMA by taking BJJ matches, then Boxing, then maybe Kickboxing, then you get to MMA

MMA is my favorite.
But people are just plain disrespectful to the other sports, without realizing that without these sports the skill levels of all aspects of mma would dramatically plummet, with no incentives to reach world class elite levels in those sports.

There is just no reason to demean BJJ,boxing, muay thai, wrestling, but even other fighters,do it all the time. I know in their case it just comes down to competitive fire, but eh...

I don't think anyone is demeaning those sports, most MMA fighters were a part of one of those sports before MMA, but MMA should always have that respect

Why are we still comparing 2 different sports?

This is like Rogan debating the other guy in TV from yeats ago, we are suppoused to be over that stage at this point, boxing isn't going anywhere.
People are dumb and think just because you can punch in both, they’re equivocal.

BRB, I can put a 525 small block engine in my Chevy and beat half the town drag racing. Tell Mario Andretti and Dale Earnhardt to kiss my ass I’m ready for the Indy 500.
