All these scrambly American grapplers have zero chance against Cummings. One of the highlights of the tournament for me was when he grabbed a fleeing Chad George's ankle with one hand and pulled him into the finish. Nearly every other competitor, inclduing Geo and Bill Cooper, play this game of leg lock chicken with each other where they hope to quickly drop into a dominant leg lock position and/or quickly escape before they are threatened themselves. Cummings has a much higher grasp of the fundamental movements behind those positions, not just the strategic upside of constantly threatening low percentage heel hooks.

i wasn't a big no gi fan before, but geez, last night's EBI has got me watching the previous EBIs.

So true. Not only is he energy efficient, he finished his opponents. That's a double benefit as opposed to using tons of energy to gain a dominant position. Cummings barely broke a sweat to achieve the greatest possible outcome.

So I finally was able to watch the entire card today. As I started my leave from work. I had to take my son to a kayaking clinic or camp or whatever they call it, so I couldn't go to noon Jiu jitsu. So I watched it. I have seen the last last two EBI tournaments.

Say what you will about Eddie Bravo. His conspiracy theory stuff annoys the shit out of me. That out of the way he has made a huge step forward in making bjj more palatable to the general public. The matches were exciting and fun to watch. I think it's great to have these overtime rules. I like the pay system as well. You need to finish the guy and win the tournament to get paid. If you just stall it out you get a yellow card and if you don't get a sub you are losing out on money. This makes the guys go for broke. There is a clear winner and people like that. Draws suck for people to watch. No one wants to pay money to see that shit.

I hope more pay to watch tournaments begin to implement EBI rules. Make it more standard for these types of events.

Now that I've actually watched ebi I can look at the f12 again.

Everyone at 10th planet seems to have been stepping up their game since bravo started rolling out this event. Just goes to show, competition is the life and soul of any given martial art.

Bill cooper is still the man, and those guys down at paragon are all crazy. I was impressed by his sorcerous powers.

That gator roll/deep half/body berimbolo/single leg/sweep/pass to north south thing he did was wizard shit and I'm hereby declaring it the official counter to sit up guard.

Eddie Cummings is a murderer, the monster can no longer be contained. I'd give him good odds against anyone in the world at this point.
 
i'm honestly curious to see how the DDS will do in ADCC qualifiers and hopefully ADCC itself next year. They might have a real shot based off of what I've observed lately.

Btw is EBI 8 all Girls or is it middleweights? The commercial that was running through EBI 7 confused me.

What match was that in?

The Show The Art guys have my favorite Bill Cooper quote after he needed ACL surgery and was exhausted late at night but still trained with them during a private since they gave him a ride somewhere.

"We rolled and he was moving like a magician. Dude, he's a dolphin."

In recent years it's become trendy to talk about how you can attack anything from any angle, and dominant controls/grips are more important than "position before submission." But as much as people attack from every angle these days in jiu jitsu, this guy right here was one of the first to do that style.

That was crazy in the Geo match how he went from and over/under pass to sweeping himself just to re-sweep again deeper into the pass.

The Geo versus Coop match is one of the best in EBI that I can remember.

Speaking of vets I like that Baret Yoshida is always able to have at least one or two really good showcases at these events despite his age.

Barrett always brings it. You know it's tough hanging with the young guns at his age. He always has a trick or two up his sleeve.
