He has yet to have his Terminator, Predator, or Rambo, but he has been consistently been putting out entertaining movies and is becoming the go-to guy to kick up a sequel a notch. Has the torch been officially passed?

He has potential. Could of already been had he not made all those shitty family films like the Tooth Fairy. Glad he's finally going out and doing consistent action related movies, and him as Hercules kind of says soon the torch will be passed.

Yeah to a small extent. Hollywood needs more badasses.

Imo,I'd say he's sliding towards schwarzenegger. Both were athletes, done kids movies, and built up their careers with their physiques.

He could become of the same status, imo.

No one can replace Schwarzenegger. Stallone yes. Arnold, never.

Dude Arnold made "kindergarden cop" and another movie where he was pregnant. And he did the right marketing moves because that made him a family movie star and his appeal was not just for hardcore male movies but for movies with a larger appeal, larger audience that turned him into a bigger star.

If you think about it Arnie became a bigger star than Stallone (even when Stallone had 2 huge iconic roles) and I think it is because Arnie since the beggining focused on not just making action movies but comedies that would bring him to larger audiences

Clearly the rock is modeling his career after Arnies and is making similar moves, which again are smart moves. You just dont see it because you are thinking subjectively and want to just see "GGRRRR action movies" but the rock is making smart moves to appeal to wider audiences.... and yeah definitely the torch is being passed

Nah. he hasnt come anywhere close to making a movie as good as either and i highly doubt he ever will. I dont see him having the lasting power they both had/ have either

He's the best action star we have right now. Has the look/build, is a pretty decent actor when given good material, and has excellent charisma/sense of humor.

I don't see who else you could say is other than Diesel but I think the Rock is far more popular with multiple demographics.

Dwayne Johnson is the new Dwayne Johnson.

Never looked at it like this but I do agree. I enjoyed him in this last GI movie and the movie in general. Which was surprising because I never enjoyed GI Joe as a kid.

I also like that movie with him as a sheriff stopping that drug dealing and the one where he gets revenge against his brother (the movie could have been better if they left out the other white guy who was hunting him to much focus on him).

it's hard to top Arnold and Sly, especially with the iconic roles they have cemented in pop culture. But I think Dwayne Johnson is a good action star in his own right. Personally, I think it be awesome if he was a new terminator model in the next Terminator movie, vs Arnolds old T-800 series.

Maybe Jason Statham?

Not quite Arnold/Rock jacked, but he gets his action roles on.

Arnold is a one of a kind legend. A man of Arnold's caliber only comes along every one thousand years or so.

He did kid movies in the 90's by then he already was in The Terminator, Conan, Pumping Iron, The Running Man, Predator, and Commando. His status was already made he was already a star so doing kids films after was OK he cemented himself as an icon.

Rock hasn't cemented himself that way yet hasn't become as big to movie audiences who aren't familiar to him from WWF days. He made a few action movies that were no were in the same league as Arnolds then went straight to The Gameplan, Get Smart, Plant 51, Tooth Fairy, and Race to Witch Mountain. Consecutive kids movies from other forums and friends every seemed to dislike this move so it's good to see him going back to straight action. Let him get a few real good action movies in and throw a few kids movies in the mix.

I don't think so. Maybe people tend to look back and rank things higher than they should, but Arnold and Sly did iconic movies. Arnold was/is Terminator and Conan. Stallone was/is Rocky and Rambo. Dwayne doesn't have that movie/character or series that you equate him with IMO. I just think of him as a WWE wrestler who makes John Woo action movies and the occasional family flick. But I'm not big into today's movie scene.
