Media Dustin Poirier on Gaethje's 254 performance: Tony made Justin look better than he is

  • Dustin bet Khabib to win and Bet him to win by submission.
  • Mentions how surprised how of Justin's BJJ and position awareness on the ground, but says he has no room to talk because despite doing BJJ for a long time, he got beat by Khabib there too
  • Says Certain guys can't adjust their styles that much. Justin is the wrecking ball, not so much the matador.
  • Tony made Justin look a little better than he is honestly.
I'm glad people are realizing 2.0s aren't real.

This guy is getting starched next.

Pettis didn't break his hand against tony.

He bitched out and said he did on the stool.

Didnt actually break it.

which makes it even more pathetic. fucking page vanzant fought through a broken arm. lionheart smith won a fight after legit breaking his hand in the first round (posted x-rays that even morons here can see its broken).

lost a lot of respect for this dude after he quit like that, it was only one more round and pettis has great kicks so he didn't even have to throw a single punch.

Tony really isn't as good as people make him out to be. Dustin, conor and possibly even hooker beat him. Wouldn't be surprised if Oliveira does too.
ha, intangibles are what make and break some, and tony possesses almost every one that exists.

I don't know but it's something I feel you'd only know if you've fought. Its the reason why skill isn't the end all be all.

I thought he actually showed the scar on IG? someone here chewed me out for it. Forgot who I had to retract my statement, but now I realized he broke his hand before in his career and that there was a possibility its an old scar and he could have just been showing off to IG. We'll never know.

Do u think Justin can beat Chandler ?
I do. I don't think Chandler has the techinical striking nor the top game of Khabib. People will try to use the Khabib gameplan to take gaethje down and once they get hit or leg kicked by gaethje, once they get a takedown stuffed, they're going to realize, its harder than Khabib made it look.

Tony is *probably* past his very best, but in his two fights prior to Gaethje he put such a pace on Pettis and Cerrone that they eventually simply couldn’t continue. He also had that stupid extra weight cut in the mix, his corner was terrible, and Gaethje performed great. I think we need to see how his next fight or two goes before declaring that it’s over. Could he turn into Lawler and lose his next four or something? Sure. I’ve always thought it might end in a hurry for him. But he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah but there was a long distance, nearly two years between the pettis and Gaetchi fights, and Cerrone has lost a few steps too.

I think Tony has dropped off significantly since the RDA fight.

Its difficult competing with the elite LWs when you're 36..

I can guarantee you he didn't break his hand in that fight.

We spent plenty of time ridiculing Pettis for it when it came out his hand was fine.

again, he's broken his hand before. Could it have been a scar from his previously broken hand or is it a new incision caused by the tony fight?

Doesn't make sense how his scar would heal up 11 days after the fight LOL. or how he'd be out of a cast.

i think its one those things like the silva leg break, where you just cant take the same amount of pain there because of what has already occurred. its like a physical form of confirmation bias or something

I said the same thing about the tony fight. Tony just stayed in one spot and got hit with the same combo over and over.

Has anyone heard anything from justin coach wittman about that performance against Khabib,?

lol nothing. I'm kinda shocked he hasn't said anything at all. Before the khabib fight, he was all over the podcasts talking. After gaethje got smoked, not a lick. Respect to Kavanaugh and Mike Brown. They both talked after their respective fighters got beaten by Khabib.

I'll give momentary pass on the double WC but if he stalls on Cowboy - done deal - he has all the tools to shine here. Zero disrespect to Oli who I enjoy as well but if I pick levels anywhere it's a good case here. If Ferg blows this - level down bruh!

Again I #hespect all who step in the cage but on a "who will I back" platform this is a good measuring stick...

Ya, my thoughts exactly.

Pettis almost beat him, imo.

But I still think he was elite and one of the best LW.
Pettis always rushes things. He could have beaten Tony had he slowed things up a notch

It kinda sucks that neither gaethje or wittman had talked at all about the fight. I made a thread about it and people argued that he wouldn't say anything different than what he said in the octagon and in the last fight interview with Olivi

I disagree I think there's plenty reporters could ask him like how was his training camp, what did they train for why was he throwing looping paying managers, they could have , more in depth questions and answers from media and fans

It’s his will and relentlessness that make him special, not that he dominates. Barboza was tuning him up too. But Tony grinds and grinds and grinds and usually finds a :eek::eek::eek::eek: in the armor.

Gaethje was (mostly) careful and he hits really hard.

There was always going to be revisionist history with Tony, but you don’t win that many fights in a row by accident. He was awesome. It remains to be seen whether he still is, but he was awesome.
Yeah that style can end in 2 ways. Against a precision striker like Mcgregor constantly heading straight into punches can be a pretty bad idea. Tony's striking his high level but its not elite like Mcgregor. Yeah it was his crazy pace, cardio and durability that allowed him to just overwhelm fighters who maybe had better technical striking
