Dustin Poirier: Michael Chandler Matchup is 'Layup' for Conor McGregor

Chandler has declined since the fight was originally booked but Conor has just been on a drug binge the entire time. Most athletes look like crap after 35 without drugs.

Anyone that's ever been around any kind of drug abuse knows there's no way he's still in his prime after all that. It probably never happens now but if it does Chandler wrecks him.

I would be surprised if conor beat any good fighter right now. Fighting is really fucking hard and he doesn't work anymore

Today my father asked me to clean his car for him so I spent the whole morning doing it. After sometime, I went back inside and my father asked me how was the car looking. "Conor McGregor," - I just replied. He smiled and nodded. He knew that it was washed.

If only Sherdog had NSFW, over 18 confirmation, Conor’s dick pics would be meme and gif Hall of Fame.

And McGregor would still manage to blow it. He's done.
Chandler is also more than done… of course McGregor is also washed after nearly 4.5 years of inactivity … it’s a coin toss for both of em

It was layup, not anymore. Chandler lost several fights and Conor could have been the one to derail him. Now it does not matter anymore and Conor is probably in much worse form right now. He could lose easily at this point, since Chandler is active.

For now, Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler remains little more than a hypothetical in the minds of mixed martial arts fans.

However, the bout recently gained new life following President Donald Trump’s announcement that a UFC event will be held at the White House in June 2026. Since then, McGregor has re-entered the promotion’s drug-testing pool, and both the Irishman and Chandler have expressed interest in revisiting their bout — which was originally supposed to take place after they coached on “The Ultimate Fighter 31.” The fight was booked for UFC 303 in June 2024, but McGregor pulled out of the contest with a broken toe and hasn’t been close to returning to the promotion since.

However, the former UFC two-division champion has recently stated that his participation on the White House card is a “done deal.” As someone who has faced both McGregor and Chandler, Dustin Poirier believes that the “Notorious” one would be the clear favorite if the bout comes to fruition.

"That's a layup for Conor,” Poirier told CasinoBeats. “That’s a great matchup stylistically. A fight is a fight, so anything can happen. But I do believe that Conor is going to knock Chandler out if they fight. I think it's just a very bad matchup for Michael Chandler.”

Poirier went 2-1 against McGregor in UFC competition and was the last person to face the Dublin native, who broke his leg in their trilogy bout in July 2021. The now-retired Poirier also bested Chandler via third-round submission in a wildly-entertaining clash at UFC 281.

While Poirier ultimately got the better of McGregor in their trilogy, “The Diamond” remains impressed by his former foe’s drawing power at his peak.

Just commenting to keep Conor more relevant than these new age bums

Court Mcgee smokes Conor also why he looks like Dagestani?

Bro it’s Chandler we’re talking about, he would find a way to lose to CM Punk…
I hear you but he hasn't been doing mountains of coke or drinking himself to death. You cant take that much time off and destroy yourself during it. He's cooked.

Conor was already in decline before the leg break. I don't understand why people believe he is gonna do well in 2026.

Doostin and Chandler hate each other so it makes sense he'd say something like this.

he is 100000% correct

Conor fairs well against shorter dudes, always has. Which is why he got destroyed after moving up.

If Conor doesn’t get the finish in the first minute and a half he will gas badly and Chandler will look like a world beater knocking his block off.

Conor would appear to need *massive* changes in his life to fight again at the UFC level, even against the likes of Chandler.

My sympathies to Chandler waiting years...but I have long said that the fight to make is Nate-Conor III. The UFC can no doubt make it happen, if it so chooses.

The Conor that Poirier knocked out a few years ago? Sure. Conor in 2026 though? Chandler brutalizes him.
