For now, Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler remains little more than a hypothetical in the minds of mixed martial arts fans.

However, the bout recently gained new life following President Donald Trump’s announcement that a UFC event will be held at the White House in June 2026. Since then, McGregor has re-entered the promotion’s drug-testing pool, and both the Irishman and Chandler have expressed interest in revisiting their bout — which was originally supposed to take place after they coached on “The Ultimate Fighter 31.” The fight was booked for UFC 303 in June 2024, but McGregor pulled out of the contest with a broken toe and hasn’t been close to returning to the promotion since.

However, the former UFC two-division champion has recently stated that his participation on the White House card is a “done deal.” As someone who has faced both McGregor and Chandler, Dustin Poirier believes that the “Notorious” one would be the clear favorite if the bout comes to fruition.

"That's a layup for Conor,” Poirier told CasinoBeats. “That’s a great matchup stylistically. A fight is a fight, so anything can happen. But I do believe that Conor is going to knock Chandler out if they fight. I think it's just a very bad matchup for Michael Chandler.”

Poirier went 2-1 against McGregor in UFC competition and was the last person to face the Dublin native, who broke his leg in their trilogy bout in July 2021. The now-retired Poirier also bested Chandler via third-round submission in a wildly-entertaining clash at UFC 281.

While Poirier ultimately got the better of McGregor in their trilogy, “The Diamond” remains impressed by his former foe’s drawing power at his peak.

What are the stakes? Cam Conor lose and shake the guys hand and help promote the next fight/fighter/endeavor?

Or if he loses will he pull his d out and run around and go psycho

I dont know that I would pick Conor to beat anyone. I bet the first decent shot shakes his whole body. Between the brain trauma from fighting, the coke/booze snd the broken leg his body is wrecked. Chandler rd1 KO

And McGregor would still manage to blow it. He's done.

Conor has done a great job of misleading people going on years now, into thinking he can still fight in MMA. He'll post a couple clips of himself sparring someone very low level and he still looks totally drained in them.

He's just not physically and mentally up for it anymore. I do know he wants out of his UFC contract to pursue other things, but he's not going to be able to fight out the two remaining fights he's contracted for.

Chandler is still capable of winning this fight and would've smoked Mcgregor in 2023.

But he's declined enough now that I think the tables have turned in favor of Mcgregor.

I would still bet on Chandler though, at least we know what we'll get. Conor even at his best didn't have many weapons and now is surely just a left-hand merchant with bad cardio. Conor will have not fought for 5 years and his last fight against Dustin wasn't competitive, he was on the verge of a KO/TKO loss in the opening minutes.

Bro it’s Chandler we’re talking about, he would find a way to lose to CM Punk…

True, it's essentially a tune-up fight. He's a stocky wrestler who doesn't like to use his wrestling.

Conor would likely knock him out.

But even if he does, nobody will be impressed. He's 2-5 in the UFC, and on a 3 fight losing skid lmao.

Any fight is a layup if it's fixed.

But in a legit fight, I'd take the old man in the bar in a rematch at this point.
