Dustin Poirier is the best "striking based" Lightweight ever

Hands down the most overrated guy in this place. Especially given the yanks are all asleep rn

Bjs record and achievements are well above Dustin's those are facts yiure talking about a lw who defended 4 times and had the longest lw win streak in the UFC who also faught a 205 lyoto machida at a catch weight who also challenged the ww champ gsp x2 times in a very close fight Dustin can't even get the belt
You are entitled to your own opinion, but I don't think BJ's resumé ages very well and don't think it holds a candle to Dustin's, especially at Lightweight. Only thing BJ has over Dustin is the title of the belt; if you are just looking at the names and the body of work, Dustin's resumé/ record shits all over BJ's and it's not even close.

I was thinking Takanori Gomi is right up there, but then when I look at his record he had an awful run in the UFC at the end of his career. I'd probably have to agree with you TS/

Yep, could be the best chin at LW.
Combine that with his great boxing offense a d defense and you get the resume he has.

For sure. He ate bombs against Conor and Chandler who are both hard hitting 155ers and didn't seem remotely fazed.

Dustin has decent defense that allows him to survive rough situations. I like that he mentioned that if Chandler didn't throw looping shots then he probably would got taken out.

Yes ... However

He was prepared to defend Chandler looping punches because Chandler throws looping punches.

If Chandler threw straight punches, Dustin and Mike Thomas Brown may have worked out a defensive strategy for that.

Dustin was just the better overall fighter, but hell of a fight.

Funny. I think Chandlers one of the most overrated fighters on this site. And I tend to think the results of their fight support that theory.

Yeah, Khabib, Charles, Edgar, etc are all probably above him in the Pantheon of Lightweight Greats, however, as far as striking style dominant Lightweights go Dustin is probably the best ever.

Dude has beaten Max Holloway x2, McGregor x2, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, Michael Chandler, & Anthony Pettis, just to name a few.
This dude makes absolute wars with other guys of that ilk and has proven to be the best of them.
Um no bif Dustin fan but the dude gets hit a lot and i mean a lot..

I mean Gomi was past his prime. He had already been losing in Sengoku before he went to the UFC. Lost his last fight in Pride as well.

Dustin does have a better resume I think though. But Gomi wasn't the same after PRIDE, too much sushi and beer.

explain that kicking thing? never heard that

Dustin had hip surgery a few years back. He pulled out of his fight with Nate Diaz over it and treated it non-surgically, but then in 2019 ultimately had to get his femur reshaped and repair tears.

If you've spent time around life long wrestlers and grapplers, you'll see plenty that walk and move like Dustin does now. He has the gait of a guy with worn hips. He can still low kick really well (see his second fight with Conor) but he's not able to really fire head kicks and his mobility is limited.

Fortunately for Dustin, he's transitioned his game to be very boxing heavy over the years which benefits him now.

Hip injury pushes back Dustin Poirier’s planned return

You’d have to say it’s Conor, he was champ
