Dustin Poirier and His Obsession with Jumping Guillotines Hit New a High...

If he continues with his jumping the Gilly tactic against Makhachev that will be exactly what Makhachev wants : they end up on the ground. Which would be tactically stupid.

This title shot in June will be Dustin's 3rd title shot and almost certainly his last. He has got choked out by RNC in both previous title-shots. So FFS stop juimping guillotine and keep it on the feet. Makhachev will make mincemeat out of DP on the ground.

Also....DP needs to drill and drill and drill his take-down defense with multiple Dagestani wrestlers/grapplers before June.
and have 10 top-level BJJ guys coming at him one after the other trying to choke him or sub him.

He has to realize he must do all these things to have a decent chance of victory.

I think if he loses to Makhachev, he retires instantly in the cage. Because all title-shots will be at an end and he will be 35.5yrs and he has said he doesn't fancy going to fight at 170lbs as those guys are far bigger than him. His only 'savior' might be if UFC does introduce a 165lb division (no doubt for McG's principle benefit...) but...if they were gonna do that....they'd have done it already.

I'm an Islam fan but if Dustin won by guillotine that'd be the stuff of fucking legends
Dustin will catch Islam in a guillotine, Khabib will go crazy and jump the fence, Dustin will put the gilly on him as well.
Mike brown comes from behind and puts the merch shirt on dustin and places a hot sauce on Islam's body.
legit lol'd

Better be careful. Dustin is gonna have Islam guillotined in one arm and Khabib guillotined in the second arm, and if Mike Brown jumps in during that chaos, he should watch he doesn't get guillotined by the third arm

If or when he tries a guillotine on Islam I'll denounce my fandom. Then I'm gonna mail my dirty underwear to his charity. That shit is frustrating as all hell to watch. <WhitmanDefeat>

The rest of us are going to be celebrating his submission victory, bandwagoner.

Someone from Louisiana of French descent who can't even pronounce guillotine properly, let alone execute one effectively.
How dare you, no you didn't!

Dustin took a lot of energy and impact off of BSD's assault. He controlled the pace and the body as well.

It was at risk of burning out his arms, but in the end Poirier prevailed..
Yeah i am notsure that being on the giving end of a failed jumping guillotine is a positive in terms of energy.

Dustin used the guillotine to effectively control and subdue attacks from BSD.

Poirier didn't get the submission -- but the energy he used in the guillotines saved him damage.

BSD had to extricate his head instead of pounding Dustin out.

Dustin successfully managed his energy and went on to Victory with the fight ending exchange on the feet for the KO.

Guillotines, like other grappling techniques, moves and maneuvers have value beyond submissions -- especially where they frustrate an opponent who may otherwise have a dominant position that could end the fight.

Don't know if you're serious or not, but I'm pretty sure Dustin's whole team would disagree with this.

Of course it was not pleasant for BSD and it did tire him, but a failed guillotine is widely viewed as being more taxing for the guillotinor and not the guillotinee.

I think people make too much of it, the guillotine was there against BSD, I even bet on Dustin by sub, and if he's confident that he can scramble out of there then I don't see why he shouldn't attempt it. Against Khabib he only did it as a last resort, which to me shows it's not a 'fight IQ' issue, like a lot of people are saying. I'm sure it wouldn't be his plan A against Islam, just like it wasn't against Khabib

Poirier hasn't been submitting many at this level.

He tapped Chandler, and technically he tapped Pettis with a body triangle, but before that it's 2012 when he subbed Brookins.

At the UFC entry level and back in WEC, he was submitting everyone.

Not so much now.

Very serious.

Dustin won that fight by not taking big damage in Round 1. He neutralized BSD with that guillotine.

MMA is about disarming striking by using grappling -- and tying up the BSD raging bull kept Dustin from receiving the full ground and pound.

And yeah -- Dustin won that fight -- his corner didn't.

Brilliant marketing. Also a missed opportunity for Cody McKenzie..
