solid pilot. im into it.

Film Threat described as old school sexy mean HBO. They did not like the talkiness and lack of action but i am fine with it in theory.

For a first episode…I was pleasantly surprised.

It was able to keep my attention and wasn’t pushing some underlying “woke” agenda.

I was ready to keep watching and am looking forward to episode 2.

I liked the first episode. Really well acted and some interesting characters. Honestly don’t think they even needed to center it around the bene gesserit with all the interesting House politics but maybe they didn’t want to seem like a copy of ASOIAF (despite Dune being first, obviously).

It’s very much a pay attention at all times or you will quickly lose the plot type of show. Our friend watched it with us and was completely lost at the end of it. He had no clue what was happening or why… and he seemed bored. So this won’t be for everyone.

The most important question about the show is the same i had for the John Wick miniseries. Does it diminish the Dune brand? it started good it seems. That miniseries about the Continental was like inch from diminishing the brand.

Didn’t even know there was a John wick series.

Was it another one of those; tiny woman destroying navy seals in hand to hand combat type shows?

I do not remember. Woman can friggin shoot, i am a pretty sure they can do that well on the show, i do not remember the karate much.

Dune was awesome. Dune 2 was a decent action movie but nowhere near the quality of the first.

Dune with the ghostbusters remake treatment is probably gonna suck.

Pretty good. Some of the stuff they talked about in the history like the robot wars could have been a cool starting point. I don't know where the books are on that.

Like it so far. It's canonically consistent with the books, but in a time period right after the Sisterhood of Dune and Mentats of Dune.

So it's a brand new story that has not been told, but still not canon breaking.

Don' the books written by Herberts son and Kevin j. Anerson suck or at best they are barely mid?

I read Brian Herbert's Butlerian Jihad trilogy during lockdown. You will immediately notice a sharp change in writing style. Frank Herbert was far more poetic and even abstract in his writing. His son Brian (and Kevin J. Anderson) have a more straightforward style. Not bad, mind you. They are quicker reads and are far more detailed as far as their action scenes and even some of the lore. But all in all, I had a blast reading them. They are fun. And if you plan on reading the sequel books, read the Butlerian Jihad trilogy first. There are some elements of the prequel books that have strong connections to the "conclusion" pair of books that they wrote.

And then the 3 house books are totally worth the read. It's a different style but it builds upon the world of Dune, which I like.

I guess he improved . Anderson's SW books read like a 12 year old wrote them.

I haven't read any of his SW work, but I did read both the Butlerian and House trilogies for Dune, and I think 'mediocre' is a perfectly apt description. They're longer books that read like longer books; I thought they were in dire need of another round of editing. The prose got the job done but it wasn't anything aspirational. They're not good enough that I'd recommend them to non-fans of the franchise, and if you're a fan of Frank's books there's a very real chance you'll hate these ones.
