How many times did Duke probably argue with Punk suggesting he compete in at least a few amateur kickboxing events before even considering a professional mma match?

Duke is a smart guy this must have been mind numbing for him dealing with a celebrity.

Like you said, Duke is a smart guy. He’s got a huge draw on his hands, and he knows how to coddle him. Punk brings a lot of attention to Duke’s gym, Duke pumps his tires and strokes his ego, Punk gets a second MASSIVE payday, and Duke takes home a considerable chunk of it regardless of the outcome. That’s about as good as it gets.

If Duke put him in a few kickboxing matches first, the curtain would be lifted (more than it already has) and his payday decreases.

I also hate to be the one to say it, but I don’t think I’d want anything to do with a kickboxing match and Duke given the recent events.

Zero times. Punk was being groomed for a $$$$$ UFC match, and Roufus was getting paid handsomely for that specific thing.

As well, training for kickboxing matches means that you're going to neglect several key MMA skills - especially the ground skills - so since Punk's ultimate goal was to fight MMA it would have been silly to focus only on kickboxing skills in the present. Better to start improving all the skills now to become as a good an MMA fighter he can be when the time comes to step into the Octagon.

duke is a scam artist

6 months he had cm punk and couldn't even teach him to throw a jab or right hand properly

and he's a pretty shit head coach too
some gameplans he has come up with for his fighters shows he has brain damage

Like the gameplans for Tyron Woodley?..

Even if all goes well Punk wont fight for another 10 years, there is no time, its a cash grab from all sides the only problem i have with it that UFC lets it happen, let him fight in some Bellator or Rizin ME, looks bad for the UFC anybody would take a shot like Punk did.

Duke probably had many conversations with Dana and CM in the same room beforehand. This circus act is a mutually agreed upon one, despite the miserable freakshow that it is. Hopefully "CM Punk" gets his skull fractured in ten places and serves as an unpleasant lesson as to why we should stop delegitimizing the sport for money.

I just had a mental image of Peter Aerts rolling out of bed and knocking Punk out.

CM Punk in The UFC is ONLY about $$$. Not his past experience, amateur or not, his abilities, etc...ONLY $$$.

Punk has the choice between getting wrecked at amateur bouts for shit money or get wrecked in the UFC for big money. His head coach could be god almighty and he still couldn't convince Punk not to take the money.

I'm gonna guess never. Punk might be shitty fighter with no experience, and encouraging him to fight in the UFC is highly irresponsible, but he's also a golden goose that brings in the mega bucks. .

Ahhh, The Duke

He's got himself a little cash cow on his hands and has probably been working hard to give this middle aged, former professional wrestler some kind of fundamentals so that he doesn't look like a complete fool for taking him in again

Now teaching an old dog new tricks is never an easy task, but to me, even with an elite coach like Roufus I do not think Punk "has it" and is only in it for the money as well as possibly hoping this erases the embarrassing loss he took at the hands of Mickey Gall

As a fan, I find it to be ridiculous that Dana is giving Punk a second chance and even tho I'm not a big fan of Nate Diaz, what he said years ago was spot on - It's disrespectful to others who have had to earn their way to the UFC and that this guy has been welcomed with open arms

Same thing could be said about Lesnar, but at LEAST Brock had one pro fight before being signed and had to beat a guy with 40 more fights than him to get a title shot. Brock also had a collegiate background in wrestling as well as being a physical freak.. Punk did not have that background, beat a veteran, or have one professional fight before being signed.

I don't know this Mike Jackson guy or have seen his fights but I'm rooting for him because the UFC is viewing him as a complete can in hopes Punk comes in and gets a win off him. I hope this guy knocks Punk on his ass and reaffirms to the world why this clown should not be in the UFC in the first place. It's just a load of shit that he's even allowed back.

Punk should be the only fighter allowed to wear his sneakers in the cage

What if punk beats the crap out of his next opponent?

What if Punk beats the shit out of some 0-1 photographer? I don’t know that it would say much about Punk or Duke. It says more about how great the UFC is in finding the one guy on Earth Punk could beat.

For what it’s worth, I don’t see Punk beating MJ.
