Don't agree with the punishment, but their rules, their laws...she knew it and broke it.
I'm sorry, but the last place I would ever try to smuggle drugs into would be Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia or china...
they don't fu*k around , simple as that..
too right they don't fuck around
Singaporean executed in Singapore in '05 for smuggling in 1kg of marijuana, his first offence and he had just spent 8 years in the Singapore army.

Westerners are definitley not above the law:
(

(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Tuong_Nguyen) Australian (i know its not western") 396.2 g of heroin.
Indonesia is rampant with child labor and child prostitution, but I'm glad they're on top of that drug problem instead. First thing's first.
Firstly, I don't believe in capital punishment at all, but there is a very good reason why these south-east Asian countries are so hard on drug traffickers. Due to the geography, if they were not so tough, their countries would be completley infested with drug traffickers.
Firstly there is the golden triangle of opium growing countries such as Thailand, Laos and i think Burma. There is tonnes of heroine going out of these countries even with the tough laws so what would it be like without them?!?
Then there is the case of Singapore, this is one of the world's busiest ports (if not the busiest), and one of the world's busiest airports in terms of stop-overs etc.
It's geographical location has resulted in a small island being the main gateway for transporting goods between the east and west. If they were lax on drug laws it would be the drug smuggling capital of the world before you know it.
Indonesia is an interesting case too, particularly Bali were illegal drug use is endemic.
