Dricus’s style is horrible

It reminds me a lot of the dean of mean Keith Jardine. How can he be champ??
hes the only one actually fighting. every one else is looking to win a contest or score a KO to go viral. Driccus is in there fighting. fighting is never meant to look pretty.

Anderson, Israel, Conor all stand out because of how they looked while fighting. believe it or not what they did and are doing is WAY HARDER than what driccus does. even if people dont realize it, thats part of what makes it look so spectacular to the eye when they are on.

driccus like fedor and khabib use their skills to FIGHT. they never look pretty outside of some grappling techniques. Because they are actually fighting

I have nothing against DDP but I see him as having a huge advantage due to size. Apparently he walks around at 230. He has an awkward style which is effective as long as he doesn't fight either a good wrestler who shoots or a striker with serious knockout power. He will have a lot of trouble with both Khamzat or Alex.

he is a unit, however if sean didnt ignore half of mma and he grappled/clinched to help drain his opponent then he could win this fight.

weird watching fighters go forward, yet hit an invisible wall of nothingness.

he isnt just outsizing people he is fighting opponents refusing to use half of mma. a kickboxer who initiates grappling, fighting kickboxers who wont

He's getting better technically in the past couple of fights.

His style is super unorthodox and his timing is weird AF, but that's part of what makes him so hard to figure out. Plus, he rearranges faces with one shot when he lands clean.

He broke Whittaker and Strickland's noses with one punch.
His power is nuts. Comes from weird angles, too.

This really shows how uneducated people are when it comes to fighting.

Like it has to look a certain way or else it ainrt good, even everyone seen him win and defend the belt
He’s got two title defenses and has beaten the who’s who of 185. You can’t please some of these guys.

Keith had a glass jaw and was almost a champ himself. Style not as bad as you think it is.
I mean to me they were maybe a bit awkward but not that much alike.

Dricus is a million times better than Jardine and its not JUST cos of his better durability.

There is no way he walks around at 230 he's not even that big for a MW come on

Not aesthetically pleasing, but effective. Anyway, I think he’s a symptom of the MW division. Not all champs are created equal. It’s no surprise that the 2 most talented champs skill wise are at FW and LW.

The bigger they are, the stupider they can get away with fighting if the intangibles are there.

Once you hit MW they are basically weight-cutting from like 210-220 on average, so being big/powerful and able to soak up damage like a sponge becomes incredibly more important.

I think he is purposely fights like that.
Part of it HAS to be just his natural way of fighting.

I dont think anyone sets out to fight that way.

A good coach will see how some things can work for someone, and base a plan around it.

Sure he is and yes its not but

Keith wasnt that bad. Ko'ed Forrest just before he became the champ, beat Chuck just as had lost the belt and had a 55-45 fight vs Rampage that gave a damn.

I guess the point is that visuals are not everything. I think the only time Ive said to myself "man this guy sucks " just before DDP knocked Marcus Perez out cold. That was the bizzare moment. After that Ive been more and more on the train especially when he turned that Brad Tavares fight around.

I remember going into the fight with Whittaker, people were like there's no way a guy with a style like this can beat Whittaker. It was all this "on paper" thing and not at all looking into the intangibles.

It made me think more and more he might be able to do it.

People look at Belal the same way, although he's the opposite of DDP, he does everything the way your supposed to do it, but in a very meat and potatoes basic way. People dont wanna believe that you should be able to be the champ with basic moves and discipline.

Perfect technique is safer, but not alwayz as effective.

Everyone knows what picture perfect technique is, & so can train for it. I enjoy someone who adds their own twists to it. Makes it harder to train for & more fun to discuss in teh Dog afterward.

Jiri also has some weird brawler style mixed in with his technique & he'z doing very well. That said, if teh right person like Poatan comez along who can use a cleaner technique to keep teh chaos at bay, then it gets exposed.

DDP's style is not horrible like the thread would make you believe. The old saying is pressure makes diamonds and DDP has a ton of pressure. He has 3 things generally a lot of Middleweights don't have combined into one: Pressure, Power and Cardio. I mean look at the Strickland fight. DDP was tired and still managed, even with a very defensive Strickland, to break his nose.

I'm tired of doubting DDP. I think DDP beats Khamzat. Khamzat will be hell on wheels in the first 2 rounds but I think DDP outlasts him. The thing that worries me is Khamzat has never fought a big Middleweight. His UFC record is full of Welterweights or smaller Middleweights. Now he's going to fight a big Middleweight with power and cardio. I don't like those odds.

DDP is a generalist/Brawler...

He understands how to mix it up, and has the power to make you pay over time .. he's the type of fighter you cant trade with ...

To beat him you need to be either a true specialist in something...or more powerful ..

Izzy had the tools to beat him but traded too much with him .. it was tactical error on Izzy's part not a skill mistake..

You dont have to be prettiest to be champion you just need to win within the rule set...
