Doufus Sport has to take some blame in this

I mean come on, imagine:

- You pay the best piano teacher in the USA to teach you piano. 4 years later you can't correctly play 'Happy Birthday'.
- You pay the best driving instructor in the USA to teach you how to drive. 4 years later you fail driving test.
- You pay the best marathon coach in the USA to train you to run 26 miles straight. 4 years later you manage 6 miles before gassing out.
- You pay Gordon Ramsay to teach you to cook, 4 years later you attempt an omlette but undercook the eggs

The list goes on.
Punk:

- 35 at the time of beginning training
- Had a life long history of working in wrestling. Which meant:
- He had the conditioning to go 10-20 minutes, lifting bodyweight, running, jumping, suplexes, irish whips, flips etc all that WWE stuff
- He had functional strength base
- He knows what it feels like to get hurt
- He has the dedication to become good at something which involves cardio and strength
- Had no injuries or illnesses, at least none he made public
- Had all the time in the world to train

He may not be a gifted MMAist, but would you consider MJ a gifted MMAist? He came in with a better conditioning, strength, cash and dedication base than 99% of average blokes who just stroll into an MMA gym one day and decide to give it a shot. Not to mention tutoring from supposedly one of the best camps around.

Still can't get my head around the fact that he was gassing after literally 3 minutes. Doufus has some splainin' to do.
Goes to show that the fight game isn't easy. You can't just throw money at something and expect results.

No amount of training can help you prepare for anxiety and pressure. That comes with experience. Punk should have done a bunch of local amateur shows like most fighters.

They should take all the blame. They can go the way of Edmond's gym. In fact, someone needs to do a Ruke Doofus version of this video.

its true he ain't athletic but i more think its a case of him not really learning anything or at least nothing stuck, Punk legit look like he didn't train for a day in his life no technique, no skill, nothin

Bs. He looked better than he did his last fight. I think he even won the first round.

Meh, dude wanted to play UFC fighter. Fuck him. Take his money.

Instead of buying Ferrari like any other guy with Mid Life Crisis he wanted to pretend to be a badass and UFC fighter. I hope they took a lot of money from him.

The guy literally doesn't know how to fight, he doesn't even have the basic mechanics down. You can chalk some of that up to jitters and obvious inexperience but properly trained amateurs making their debut look a more qualified than he did.

Duke and everyone else at the gym knew he was going to get worked by any warm body, even someone with virtually no MMA experience like 0-1 Mike Jackson, a photo journalist in his 30's.

The reality of the situation is Phil insisted he wanted to do this, and paid Duke to prepare him. I honestly hope before both fights Duke instructed Phil to cancel or delay the fight, knowing he may get hurt.

The problem with your comparisons, is that learning MMA isn't just learning one thing.
.

Maybe not but the absolute minimum you need for all the mixed martial arts is stamina, but he didn't even have that. How hard is it to say, 'Punk, you're gassing after 5 minutes of light sparring, we've got to fix this first'. And you can't use age as an excuse, my friends dad is in his 50s and cycled 120 miles the other week.

Does it take 4 years to learn to clinch and hold on for dear life and shoot at the body for a takedown with zero power and not even driving through? His take down timing was good but it would be telegraphed by anyone other than MJ, you see Punk hesitate slightly before he shoots every time.

But it was still an improvement. He's a slow learner. He shouldn't give up because you guys don't believe in him.

There's still a big difference between getting punched in the face during sparring and getting punched in the face during the actual fight, under the big lights with the crowd screaming their heads off. And he definitely got hit in the face.
Not trying to defend Punk too much by the way, it was a shitty fight which made it quite clear that there's a reason for an amateur league. Punk didn't start his wrestling career main eventing wrestlemania either.

Wish I could give this post more likes.

No excuse for a guy who supposedly trained for years to look that bad.

How much did CM Punk actually train MMA? It's really hard to believe that he trained even 3 times a week for 4 years straight.

Yeah Rofous has lost all credibility in my eyes.

Punk might as well have been watching YouTube videos for four years. Hell I think I could’ve trained Punk better than that in my garage. An absolute disgrace.

What your missing in all this is the pressure of putting his reputation on the line in front of millions without a script. CM Punk is a wrestler and wrestling fans see wrestlers as tough guys. Though he has done hundreds of performances in front of millions, he has never done it without a safety net. In this fight, he had millions watching him get exposed as an average joe. Pressure kills cardio and fight IQ. It’s quite likely he is a lot better in the gym.

Cant use that excuse because he said himself for his last fight he wasnt at all nervous.
And this fight he said he can't visualise a way in which he loses. Pressure means nothing if the person its supposedly on isnt at all phased by it.
