Doubles and singles in judo?

^I think that's garbage. Morote gari should be kept. It's not extremely dangerous and is a completely legitimate technique. I tink they just dislike the one where you shoot in, because it desn't require you to establish any grips.

Ya restricting legitimate throws, and then complaining that Judo is not growing. Go figure. I don't use the double leg unless I'm down and there is like ten seconds left in the match. I heard they are going to ban "off the grip throws" such a morote gari. I wonder if this same rule will apply to say an ouchi gari like the way Jimmy Pedro does? More restrictions is bad for judo. As for the Koka rule get rid of it as well as those soft rolling Ippons.
 
Morote gari is used all the time....

For kuchiki daoshi (single leg) to work, one must have control of the sleeve (same side you are attacking), my coach always screams "Don't roget the sleeve"... and try to go outside of the leg instead of huging it (wrestling-style)

I'm actually very critical of BBJers doing the single leg without holding the sleeve......
 
Ya know I am a huge fan of singles and doubles myself. However, in competition you have got to do 2 things to make these effective......1. stay low and 2. be fast. I havent competed in judo in 15 yrs. I understand that the way training is done now is different.
 
ankle picks work especially well in the gi, because you can control a lapel and then go for the ankle.

Kuchiki Taoshi is also an ankle pick and not really a single leg, there is no single leg in Judo per say, but Kuzure Morote Gari would be a more correct name used.
 
This is a zombie thread but I'll contribute anyway.

I think the best leg takedown for Judo (or standing BJJ) is a duck under to high crotch. There are tons of options, you can turn it into a kata guruma/fireman's carry, a single leg, a double leg, or go to the back and ura-nage/suplex. Your grip on the gi can actually help you get the duck-under, and once you hit it, sprawling won't help him.

You can't initiate an attack with it anymore in Judo, but you can fake some other legal throw or trip and then go into it.

Te guruma off a duckunder was an old favorite of mine.
