They can only work with the books provided, so are they asking for more books to audit?
Or are they spending most of their days just sitting in their offices?

Why not shoot both?
And the 'GOP deficit hawks' are completely worthless. Fuck 'em.

Have I praised Trump for his fiscal responsibility in his first term?

Hell of a gig they have.
They just audit what they're told to audit, which apparently isn't much, no one pays attention to their recommendations, all while getting a pretty decent paycheck to live in or near Washington DC and receive federal benefits.

Love to see them audit this -

You want auditors to ask why money hadn't been spent?
@avenue94
Wow... look at the amazing job those auditors are doing.

They...did their job? Who do you think confirmed which pentagon programs were audited and weren't?

Serious question: what do you think auditors do?

I'll counter and ask you what you think the point of an audit is.

You want auditors to ask why money hadn't been spent?

Why wouldn't that be a reasonable question?

Everybody knows departments want annual budget increases, but why do they need the increases when they still haven't spent all their money from last years budget?

In this case, to determine what money there was and how and when it was spent, as well as controls. And in some instances provide a why and recommendations on fixed or compliance.

I mean, sure, go for it. That's not really an accounting or auditing question unless the program said money had to be spent in a certain time frame.

You seem to think that auditors can magically make an organization compliant with financial reporting standards.

So when an audit finds lots of loss and mismanagement of funds and missing money, what should we do?

Find it if possible and report it. If we're talking thr Pentagon, the issue is that DoD's accounting is so bad that they can't even get to that part of the audit.

Go ask Congess why it keeps letting thr Pentagon off the hook.

And it appears we have not been doing that, eh?

Yeah, because the world really cares about some obscure government agencies you’ve never even heard of being cut.

Agencies are not being cut but he is giving advice on programs that shouldn't exist however those miniscule programs make zero difference.

The big issue is that Americans pay more towards free healthcare than socialist countries yet receive neither good nor free healthcare. I wonder if he will go after that? I would wager not.

America in reality is actually a socialist country but don't receive those benefits. Do you know who receives those benefits? People like Elon Musk the head of this advisory board DOGE.

If you actually think the richest person in the world is cutting government funding for the benefit of the people then you are too far gone.

The world is laughing at us for trying to reduce government waste? What country are you from where excessive government spending is held so dear?

There is nothing wrong with that. If he was advising Trump on where the money should be going then kudos to him but the most likely thing that will happen is that he will cut funding aka reducing his tax burden in turn making him richer.

Like I said in the other post. America has a socialist tax system without the benefits.

Yep, as a former paratrooper for the U.S. Army, the DoD can go fuck itself. In my 10+ years of service, I've never seen such wasteful nonsense in my life.
Ask anyone in any level of any government and they will tell you the same thing.

Did I say that?

Seems like a issue of common sense that departments shouldn't been a 5% increase of their annual budget when they still have a percentage of their previous years budget completely unspent.

Right, so tell Congress that. Congress doesn't have a lack of information into how shitty the DoD's accounting and financial controls are or any other department. They just choose to keep spending regardless.

I don't think anyone is denying the massive amounts of waste and inefficiency in the government. But you aren't finding $2 trillion in actual waste, that's just nonsense pandering. Same with trying to eliminate the deficit. If someone is arguing that it can be fixed with only spending cuts and no tax increases, they aren't serious about the problem since that approach won't eliminate the deficit.

...regardless of either party being in charge.

So this warrants executive action.

If you don't believe in one of the clearest clauses of the Constitution, sure. Again, Trump exploded deficits and alone accounts for over a fifth of the entire national debt. He has never shown any serious interest in improving the government's financial footing. But now he's supposed to suddenly be interested.

No where in the constitution does it say congress should be allowed to spend the country into the complete devaluation of the currency and brankrupting the country.

Again, Trump exploded deficits and alone accounts for over a fifth of the entire national debt.
Actually he just signed the budgets congress sent to him, continuing the mistakes of Bush & Obama.
Thats not defending Trump whatsoever, just stating thats one of the biggest flaws of his first term that perhaps he's going to fix in his 2nd.

This is unpressidented in modern political history - a president serving terms non-congruently.
Its like he's getting two 1st terms, with an all-new cabinet and majorities in the House & Senate.

Lets see what he's learned from his first term.

It does however grant Congress power of the purse, and legally federal agencies must spend everything appropiated to them. But please do feel free to point me to the part of the Constituion that gives a president unilateral power to eliminate federal agencies.

Oh, so Trump was a dumbass who didn't know what the fuck he was doing? But now he magically does? You are gullible.

Keep in mind Trump is already saying the corporate tax rate should be further reduced, which would expand deficits.

The country has already had a president who served non-consecutive terms. There's no reason to think Trump has figured out how basic budgeting works when his entire private and public careers are rife with horrible fiscal decisions.

A president's first term is nothing special, they are free to completely swap cabinets for their second term.
