Elections DOGE is formed

I was skeptical at first, but this seems pretty major. DOGE shared a picture of an article (didn't link the article) about a government report identifying wasted money. Some might say that the government report is the actual important part, but a new advisory board tweeting about an article on the report is necessary and groundbreaking.

Not only that but the source is the Washington Times, well known bastion of truth. lol

The government should consolidate buildings and lease some of its unused office space. There are tons of companies and lobbyists that would be willing to pay big money to use it.

That would make more sense than sending federal employees to the office 100 percent of the time for shits and giggles. Who benefits from sending them to the office 100 percent of the time? You will get higher turn over and much less qualified employees because you will only be able to hire people willing to live very close to DC.

Granted there are a lot lazy federal employees, but these same employees will still be lazy in the office. They won't suddenly be rockstars because you've added 2 hours or more to their day in commuting.

This is exhibit A as to why DOGE is a terrible idea. The Pentagon desperately needs more oversight and fiscal controls, and for that you need trained auditors and budgeting experts. Not random internet dweebs playing armchair auditor for free.
The Pentagon shits the bed and can't account for billions of dollars. Most government agencies accomplish little and burn through money. We can fire 80% of these tax Leeches and life would be better for most Americans. Musk efficiently runs multiple companies. Of you don't think he is the man for the job, what is the solution? Giving the Pentagon more billions isn't the solution.

I think Musk thinks they might actually accomplish something if they are forced to dress up and go to work. Instead of watching YouTube all day.

But you are probably right, just fire them.

Which government agencies accomplishes little and can lose 80% of their workforce?

And the solution is hire people who actually understand government budgeting and auditing, and then Congress needs to actually do something about agencies that are out of compliance. Case in point, the Pentagon has failed to complete an audit going back years, if not decades. Yet GOP reps line up every year to give it more money. But that's somehow the fault of auditors who have no power to actually change funding?

All of them. Every single one. Especially the IRS.

GOP and Dems burn through trillions. The both equally suck.

That is why I am excited about Elon. A lifelong Dem, now Trump buddy due to political or opportunistic changes, maybe he can get something done.

What trillions in the annual budget would you cut?

And I hate to tell ya, but an aggrandizing egomaniac with no government budgeting experience who doesn't understand discretionary vs mandatory spending probably isn't going to fix things.

When I budget for my family, you have to cut certain things. We don't go out to 5 star restaurants every night. Don't buy a yacht or Lamborghini.

But America spends like it can afford the yachts, Lamborghini, and 5 star restaurants every night.

I am a huge believer in government waste. Both sides are equally bad.

I would cut mostly everything, all departments. I would cut government staff also. Some major cuts would come from redoing the tax code and cutting out the IRS and also cutting the military in half. That would be plenty large enough to defend America but not large enough to be involved in global conflicts around the world.

Also a closed border and let Americans keep more of their money rather than giving it to illegal immigrants.

Are they going to look into the food and leisure spending or other things that politicians spend or are they just going to do things like cutting entire departments they think are unnecessary but in reality they just think they are woke? I'm completely convinced the only reason people want the Department of Education gone is because they imagine schools are turning kids trans and not being religious enough. I seriously doubt any of them give a shit about the ACTUAL education standards compared to the rest of the world.

Nearly 20% of high school graduates in the US are functionally illiterate. Not sure how many of them are trans but its a problem.

You don't see any problems with a person whose companies have tens of billions of dollars in US government contracts being put in charge of what to cut from the agencies in charge of regulating his companies?

Of course there is a huge possible conflict of interest and potential problem.

But he is fixing a broken system. Of he stays transparent and open source, Americans can analyze it.

So you're taking his word for it? That seems pretty naïve considering what he potentially has to gain from being given free reign to slash government employees and regulations. Americans can analyze it, but they have no recourse, because he isn't even going to be employed by the government.

How did things go before? Trillions of dollars in debt. We trusted people and they failed. This could be better or the same thing. Can't get much worse.
