He's capable. It depends on whether the UFC wants to put him on that path or not.

They all hate boxing range. I'm not confident Umar beats Said either, Said is faster, longer, has the defensive wrestling and cardio. Umar isn't a hitter, I think the Raoni knockout is more of an outlier and age catching up to him, Raoni just ate 300 punches from Victory Henry at 36 before fighting Umar.

Yeah 22 but Umar was a Sambo world champ and Saidyokub was a standout Sambo practitioner, wrestler and U20 US Judo national champion. They were very experienced 22 year olds so they aren't going to improve drastically from 22 to 26 like others, generally speaking.
I think you're underrating Umar a bit and overrating Said's defensive wrestling. In my opinion he feasts on Said and Im big on Said. Umar gets the takedown at will and 30-25 Said like he did Nate Maness.

I don't think I'm underrating Umar but I could be wrong, his grappling is for sure very solid and what Saidyokub was doing to Said should be a reason for concern. That said, comparing Maness to Said seems wild to me, Saids ability to scramble, defend, get back up from bottom has historically been very impressive to me and he can do that hard for a full 15. And he's shown as much vs very good grapplers like Raoni and Dudaev.

I'd be shocked if Umar never fought for a title, kids too good to underrate but I definitely see see guys who will give him a competitive fight in the division.

Maybe it's just me then but the way Said was huffing and puffin after one round with Saidyokub I simply dont see him doing well against Umar but I rate your opinion so you could be right.

Definitely, don't think Said and Maness are comparable just think Umar wins in the same fashion he did against Nate Maness. A dominating but lackluster performance.

If Umar somehow avoids Yan and if im in his team im doing that, I have no doubt he goes straight to the belt. Not that I dont think he could ever beat Yan. Who do you see him having a hard time against?

After merab sends him back to russia? Not a chance

I think Jonathan Martinez and Javid Basharat are the types with strong takedown defense and fluid, long and confident striking to make the fight potentially tough for him, I have not seen enough from Umar's grappling yet to be confident he can take guys like this down at will and control or dominate them, but honestly I need to see more from all 3 of them. Said is a little more of a wild card but I could see him giving Umar trouble too. Ricky Simon is another guy, he's willing to press forward and get in Umar's face and Umar's response to that is to grapple, all the Khabib clan guys seem pretty uncomfortable in the pocket when forced to exchange and don't move their heads much (although Umar and Usman are the slickest of the stable). I do not think Umar can take Simon down easy and I don't think he can hold him there even if he does, standing at range Simon gets picked apart but if Simon can get inside of kicking distance it's a fight, he can also test Umar's takedown defense and cardio. Same for Merab kind of, he's not going to give Umar space and he's going to force the grappling exchanges and make it a war of attrition where cardio will come into play. I'd say Aljo and Cejudo can make the fight hard but I think in like 18 months time when Umar is knocking on the titles door they'll both be a little too old, but normally Cejudo would e huge trouble for a guy like Umar.

I think Raoni like I said earlier, was coming off a recent loss to Victory Henry where he absorbed some 300 strikes and is 36, Raoni is a great fighter but it was mainly the wrestling where I thought he could challenge Umar and maybe the high volume pressure if he made if he kept it in close range standing and we just never got that far. I don't think that hook knocks most people out, I don't think Umar has particularly big power either in his hands...Just a perfect storm kinda thing even though the set up was beautiful with the knee fake getting Raoni to drop his guard while he snuck a hook in. I'm not really confident at all in Chito, Sandhagen, O'Malley or Yadong giving Umar trouble, Cruz is washed but might be a fight they try to make to build him up, I think in Cruz's prime he had a lot of answers for a guy like Umar too though. Gutierrez to me is a bit of a weak link but I assume he gets past Munhoz, winner of that fight might be another potential opponent for Umar.

Merab will gas in the third just like sterling but this time Yan is going to brutalize that boy rather than go for points
Well you dont know anything about merab and you look stupid

I think Yan's problem is that he's a fighter to a fault and often forgets that this is a sport with scoring criteria. He just seems to lack self awareness in regards to how his fights are being scored in real time -- it's like he assumes that every close round is his just because he's going forward. I'm not saying he needs to become a point fighter, but he needs to realize when rounds are close, he needs to do something to set himself apart from his opponent, and often in the early rounds he's just not willing to throw out that little extra output to set himself apart.

I'm 50-50 on his chances of holding a belt again. If he wins tomorrow, he's right there again. If he loses, he has a long road back. This is a crossroads fight for him.

This fight is a crux of fate for both men honestly, if Merab loses I don't see him ever fighting for the title and if Yan loses he probably won't get another crack either.

I agree though, Yans fight IQ is pretty bad. He doesn't seem to know when to step on the gas at all. I also feel like he has a lot of facets to his game that he just doesn't use or blend together as well as he could, it's one thing when guys don't have the ability to make adjustments but Yan has all the ability and none of the decision making skills it seems. He definitely picks up on timing and rangebas the fight goes with his striking but otherwise his IQ seems quite low. Even if he just tried to shoe shine or something in the last 30 seconds when he gets guys backing up in close rounds. Also when it's possible he's down in a fight there's no urgency.

No. His style is fundamentally flawed and he doesn't fight like a champion, gives away rounds and doesn't put his foot on the gas when needed. Had nothing for Aljo in their 2nd fight (who despite his dominance has always seemed like a very beatable opponent) and made it razor close with number 13 O'Malley. Cry robbery all you want but when you make it razor close with most you fight you're going to take Ls

I think Yan is one of the most skilled fighters on the roster. Honestly, he's right there with Volkanovski in my opinion in regards to his well rounded physical skillset -- he just doesn't have Volk's brain and self awareness. Maybe Yan can improve on this, but I haven't seen it yet.

Legitimately one of the most overrated fighters on the entire roster.
I don't think his skills are overrated. He had some bad luck and he has low fight IQ

I’m sure there’s something in the ufc store he can pick up

Yup, I'd say Volk and Petr are two of the top 10 most skilled fighters in MMA.

Perfectly put

O'Malley had the speed, accuracy, and decent TDD in their first meeting. I see him even more polished and sharp if they fight again.
