I love stipe. But looking at his record you could call it a bit overated. Werdum was a pretty good win however werdum brawling with his chin open was a bit weird. Overeem is Overeem who went for the sub instead of flat lining him with gnp. Junior was a old jds. And francis was the biggest hype train ever. I won 500 off stipe that fight. If he beats DC that is huge for me.
 
Both Overeem and JDS would've given Stipe a far better fight in their respective primes, if not outright beaten him.
 
Yes. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I think trying to deny that Werdum's performance was terrible even to an uncharacteristic extent is just intellectually dishonest. I pretty much agree with all of your points.

INCLUDING that a win over Cormier would do a lot, and so would another win over Blaydes. I think that's pretty fair and that people who are calling this guy the GOAT HW are jumping the gun by a few fights.

I think DC is overrated on these boards, as much as I like the guy, Stipe is rated fairly, he's an underdog in almost all his fights for god's sake. Needless to say this fight will be the biggest test for both of them. I don't know if I would rate DC over Werdum at HW but I'll definitely rate Stipe over any win DC has.

Im not sure if he is overated he beat killers at 205 and hw but always thought him at hw was his best version. If there was a 225 weight class he would be goat right now

He beat killers in Rumble x2 and Gus, that's that, while impressive af it's just 2 guys worth a mention, Volkan if you really want to stretch it. He's potentially one of the greatest fighters ever but his record doesn't even come close in my eyes. Barnett, Bigfoot, Mir at HW. Same story, it's excellent but not really one of the GOATs resumes like people here claim, even when combined with LHW wins. I repeat that I'm a huge fan of DC, I bet on him vs Jones even but I'm just being real here.
 
Yes and no. Is he the best heavyweight on the planet? Gotta be. Is he top five heavyweight all time ? It’s hard to say. Reminds me a bit of Lennox Lewis. Clearly the best in his prime , but people can’t wrap there heads around them taking out the best heavyweights to ever do it if they were to face them in his prime. It’s totally unfair, yet I happen to agree. Stipe against Cain at his peak ? Idk. Stipe against fedor at his peak ? Nog? Cro cop ? Ubereem? JDS?It’s a ridiculous assessment of a man destroying every one put in front of him during his championship run, but it’s one that I mostly agree with( beats nog and ubereem but falls to Cain jds cro crop and fedor)
 
I actually think he is underrated, and his record is aswell.

Its WAY harder to stay on top for a HW than it is to stay on top for a FW. That's a fact, which is also why GOAT discussions heavily favor the lighter weight classes.

Werdum fought uncharacteristically? Bad for him. Overeem lost because he went for a guillottine? If you find it strange you have never seen Overeem fight. Ngannou is a hype train? BS. He is a one trick-pony who he is huge and hits like track, that's usually enough to be a top HW, always has been the case. JDS not being in his prime is the only one I can agree with, to a point.

All these guys were portrayed as monsters and were favored over Stipe. They lost and now post-rationalization kicks in. It will be the same if he beats DC, guaranteed ("he wan't in his prime", "he is a 205-er", etc.).

Actual events must trump fantasy matchups, so no, his record is not overrated at all.

think hed beat ubereem and nog so i agree. JDS is probably the toughest fight in that bunch

Nah. he's pretty good. the only question is that he would have likely lost to sea level cain.
