Does Oliveira have the second best striking at 155?

he has very good striking. he reminds me of prime werdum that beat hunt and cain. he throws alot of well timed knees

The knees is one thing I noticed in the last few fights of Olives. Especially in the thai clinch. They look devastating and I think he landed atleast 2 or 3 brutal of those on Justin.

EDIT: talking about knees to the body.

He's so damn good at one thing, people don't realize he's become exceptionally well rounded as well. And then tied the two aspects of his game together perfectly not just having a mode A and then a plan B
When everyone expects you to fling desperately for a takedown and you don’t, and you start hitting them on the feet…the takedown presents itself naturally. His skill sets are complimentary. It’s like how GSP had karate as a striking base. It just worked so well for his grappling style. And how Anderson had subs off his back….when you have styles that compliment your strength you reach another level.

Obviously I’m not putting him up there with Silva and GSP, they are just very easy examples

He’s definitely improved a ton as a striker. Having said that, he gets hit way too much for my liking. He has zero defense as far as I can tell. It’s amazing when it works, but eventually everyone gets got fighting like that, and it’s not even like he’s got the most amazing chin either.

Said it multiple times. Dude is an offensive dynamo, dangerous wherever the fight goes and maybe the most dangerous in the division in that sense. His defense is subpar however. What I’ve seen is because his defense is subpar, he gets guys real excited and they leave themselves open. Almost works to his advantage right now, though you gotta wonder how long his chin holds up.
I feel like his chin should hold since he never took any real punishment in his KO losses outside Felder. He always sorta folded up when the big shots connected, and his recovery has improved exponentially since moving back to LW

Most dangerous offensive fighter in the history of the sport.

He can KO legit strikers, and if he gets a dominant position on the ground, the fight is over.

To say that he's has zero defense isn't fair. Yeah he gets hit cleanly, but he also does a lot of crafty shit like the way he avoided most of Justin's leg kicks.

I would say probably third maybe, with Poirier and Fiziev above him for sure. Good question though.

Charles continues to surprise on the feat, but I think in pure striking he is being overrated for 2 reasons.

1) His striking defence is pretty bad.

2) He basically has the advantages of a wrestler. People are scared to go to the ground with him or get caught up in a clinch back-take, so he's able strike against them more effectively. Kind of like how Khabib outstruck guys who were vastly superior pure offensive strikers than him. Only Charles has better striking offence, and Khabib has better striking defence.

He is currently the hardest hitting LW lol

Charlie Olives has a great Muay Thai-based offensive bag, for sure. After the initial knockdowns, he also shows what I think is a underrated ability to adjust to his opponent's tendencies and timing to really put the pressure on. Like others have said, his striking defense still isn't ideal, especially given his very aggressive style. If he had Aldo-like head movement, he'd be unstoppable LOL.

This is a difficult one. If Barboza returned to LW, I'd expect him to outstrike Oliveira (but lose when Oliveira takes him down). I don't see Oliveira outstriking McGregor, or maybe he does with the threat of takedowns/JJ. It's clear though that he's a very good striker, but I think this will only last for 2-3 fights until he gets KTFO a couple of times. He gets hit way too much and will get his chin cracked badly. He's a bit like an early version of Ortega - close to losing every single fight but ends up winning.

Oliveira has one of the best multi-prone attacks in MMA. Almost nobody is fully developed in striking and submission attacks in modern times.

Not even close, IMO. His striking looks so good because of the threat of his grappling. If you took him and threw him into a pure striking contest with no threat of grappling, he'd have been KTFO'd in his last three fights alone - clearly.

The best strikers are fiziev then riddell. Then maybe Dustin then Charles. Hooker probably up there but I don't fuck with him.

Barboza does poorly with offensive pressure on the feet. Charles would catch him with straight punches. It's why Barboza is getting beaten, people have worked out to pressure him and not engage at range.

Notice how his eyes never waiver from the target. That's confidence. Conor was the same way before he went to boxing.

Yes, he’s able to stay so loose and technical, look at the shots that put down Chandler and Justin. Seems to come in part from his total indifference to where the fight goes. You can see and hear from Poirier and Gaethje that they’re much more in their own heads about that aspect of the fight.
