Does Khabib Lay Claim to the Most Embarrassing Statistic in UFC History? [and is this it?]

I always remember Trujillo's corner providing some useful advice.

"Don't let him take you down" repeated consecutively for each break between rounds.

They were so convinced of the value of this impressive key to victory they said nothing else to him.

People give many corners grief for useless advice but this stands head and shoulders above .

I suppose I have a different way of looking at it.

Being able to take someone down 21 times in one fight with a 90% success rate is very impressive 😁

Khabib did find a weakness in his grappling in that fight.

He plugged it, but not even averaging a minute per take down is poor.

So people have been knocked out without throwing a punch but this stat for Khabib in a fight he won is more embarrassing? Is it fuck.

Khabib may have actually wanted Trujillo to get up lol. Khabib got pissed at himself for allowing Trujillo to take him down and wanted to prove a point by taking him down a hundred times.

Somewhat similar to when DC fought Jones the first time. Jones beat DC soundly and at the very end of the fight DC was just desperately going for a takedown, not to win the fight but to win some sort of mental ego battle with himself. And he finally got a takedown on Jones, Jones popped right back up though but at least he got the takedown.

Tbh it's a valid tactic, you can exhaust a guy letting them fight to get up and then just taking them down, it's also extremely mentally demoralising for them.

True. It can also be a very high level way of LnP if you're skilled enough. Get double unders drag to the ground, allow enough room for the guy to get back up and then just rinse and repeat. Don't ever have to release your grip which would otherwise be seen as stalling because there's constant movement.

21 takedowns against Abel Trujillo?

<Huh2>

I just rewatched this fight, and Trujillo got up over and over and over and over again with relative ease.

What an awful stat for Khabib, supposedly an elite wrestler.

Khabib, at times, looked pretty mediocre in this fight, too, it's not just a weird stat.

Is there a better stat you can think of?

FWIW: Not a way to shit on Khabib for no reason, just a weird statistical anomaly I noticed right now.

NOTE: Khabib also missed weight.

I think Khabib had not rounded out his striking at that point. But I do think it's strange that Khabib couldn't sub him and Trujillo was able to get up so many times. In most fights once Khabib has you grounded it's just a matter of time before you tap.

i thought everyone knew this. getting up from a takedown takes a ton of energy. i forget who, but one fighter or coach explained this tactic was supposed to make the opponent feel a sense of drowning. they expend a ton of energy getting up, hoping to catch their breath on their feet, only to be taken down “underwater” again immediately. it’s also taxing on the wrestler, but if they train and condition specifically for that scenario, they have the advantage.

2013? He was like 23 or 24 at the time and while he did have 19 fights under his belt, Khabib was still green and isn't the same person people grew to love today.

It falls into the same category as the Gleison Tibau fight
so your acknowledging the fact that khabib at 19 fights
fought nobodies
pretty embarrasing for khabib fans to know the reality
hes still the LW GOAT
but no where near the likes of jones anderson and gsp lol

You didn't even address anything I said and you're arguing against a straw man. No one said Conor wasn't a hot prospect. In fact if I recall correctly people were asking Dana White about him before he even got signed. What I am pointing out is that he and Khabib spent the same amount of time in the minor leagues. Khabib made his MMA debut in 2008 and signed with the UFC in 2012. Conor made his MMA debut in 2008 and signed with the UFC in 2013.

You're trying to push this narrative that Khabib spent an an unusual amount of time in lesser promotions and it's simply not true. He was also literally the first person signed from his region of the world, he had to work damn hard for that UFC contract. He fought 8 times in a single year right before he got into the UFC. Did you ever consider that he had 16 fights because that's what it took to get the UFC's attention?
Lol, the guy Conor beat to win the FW title in this super talent org had just lost to Artem Lobov in Artem's 2nd pro fight after losing the first one.

Khabib spent 3 years and change in the regional orgs and smashed everyone, including a guy who went on to fight for the bellator title, while Conor spent 5 years fighting cans in regional orgs and got finished by 2 of them. The only guy he fought with a wiki page choked him out in 38 seconds.
Imagine embarassing yourselves so badly you're trying to argue Cage Warriors is the same thing as "ProFC".

Yes, Khabib's pre-UFC competition was both unusually bad and numerous for the time. Everybody else was fighting up the rankings, not staying fighting nobodies. Which was Abdul's openly admitted plan that they wanted a lot of experience before facing better opponents in legitimate organizations like the UFC, WEC, Bellator, Strikeforce, Dream, Shooto, Cage Warriors, etc. of the time.

Jesus Christ guys.

It's embarassing once you remember, seeing as this went to a decision, that Khabib could've also just won with 2 TDs to secure 2 rounds if he'd been able to keep him down.

As somebody else already said, if you scored the most TDs in UFC history that just means your opponent also got back to their feet the most in UFC history.

nganou vs lewis
not so sure about the stats

when your hyped to ko anyone but cant because your afraid

That fight was an absolute domination. He ragdolled a high level wrestler like he was a Cage Warriors level Irish guy trained by Irish Edmond.

Trujillo connected a few times on Khabib.

It wasn't a watertight performance by any means.

Every time they were in space, Trujillo seemed to land first, Khabib still got his shots in, before he went back to extreme smothering.
Lol landing a few punches and almost getting submitted while getting ragdolled is not competitive. Especially when Khabib landed the hardest shot of the fight. Khabib barely got touched and did whatever he wanted to Abel.

Man went into that fight with a fresh injury (which is why he missed weight) and proceeded to set a record in style

Yes, it's super embarrassing to manhandle an opponent that badly. How truly shameful. He should hang his head in shame forever because he beat his opponent so badly.

Do you people read these threads before posting them, or do you just keep churning them out in the hopes that Conor will see one and tweet it or something?
