Does Joe Rogan actually know that much about professional kickboxing?

I'm watching one of his podcasts now and they were talking about Jean Claude Van-Damme. At some point he came across the name Jomhod Kiatadisak, it was his first time ever coming across this thai fighter and couldn't even pronounce his name.

I understand if you can't pronounce his name but it was defniitely his first time seeing the name before, for someone who likes to talk about things like Glory and acts like he knows a lot about kickboxing (since he was criticizing Jean Claude Van Damme's record)...

For someone who doesn't even know one of the legends of Muay Thai and Kickboxing in general, is he in any real position to be criticizing Van Damme.

Not only that but if he doesn't even know someone like Jomhod, why the fk does he always talk about kickboxing as if he's well-versed in it?

UPDATE: I just wanted to point out that I don't think JCVD has a legit record but I'm probably wrong considering I never really looked into it deeply.

I just found it weird that he would talk about Ramon Dekkers wrecking all these Thaiboxers in his prime when Ramon Dekkers essentially lost the majority of his fights against Thaiboxers. Although, RIP Dekkers. Fking legend.

he seems to watch a lot of it. for a number of years. seems to know more than most mma fans. but i doubt he's as knowledgable in pro kickboxing as he is in the bjj world.

He knows more than me and most people here

Question TS, do you think JCVD record is legit?

Didn't he call Ronda's kickboxing "world class" or am I thinking of someone else?

Personally, I believe Rogan knows everything. Therefore I like him, cuz I only like people who knows everything.

If they do not, I believe it's my obligation to point out even the simplest mistakes.

Why is this in UFC, will the Kickboxing nerds please keep to their own section :p

Rogan is a stereotypical know it all.
He's eaten his foot a few times.

He sometimes seems like the type of guy you would and approach and ask "Hey, did you know..." and before you can finish he's already saying "Yeah!"

It's like, really? Okay, you just want to know everything other than trying to learn everything.

"Kevin Ross is as technical as it gets."
"Kevin Ross is the highest level."
"Barboza has the fastest switch kicks ever"

yeah hes a dope when it comes to kickboxing or muay thai. His boxing knowledge is mediocre but still far better than his kickboxing or MT

What does being knowledgeable about kickboxing have to do with knowing a legend of muay thai? There isn't a huge amount of cross contamination so to speak between the two. Many muay thai fighters, even the greats, never enter into kickboxing competition, and vice versa.

I was just watching the same Podcast a couple of hours ago, he sounded like he had never even heard of Somluck Khamsing.

I don't know much about either sports, but I know enough to know that he knows very little.

What Joe thinks he knows and what he actually knows are miles apart.

Now that I think of it, he'd probably fit in well at Sherdog.

That's exactly what I thought... like even guys I know who don't even follow Thai boxing or "kickboxing" but know a bit, recognize those guys as well...

Honestly, I'm starting to assume he ignores any thaiboxer or kickboxer of colour.

Because I noticed in many podcasts he's either clueless or intentionally chooses to ignore thaiboxers when he's talking about the best strikers in kickboxing or muay thai.
