Does Francis Ngannou punching power match (or surpass) Prime Mike Tyson punching power?

Foreman isn't as fast but he looks like he hits way harder than Tyson. Just the way he slowly chips away at the heavy bag.
yeah he can stand still and just throw it out there with no windup, and its like hitting a person with a tree.

I dont say whats harder though, its just different.

Tyson's speed COMBINED with the power, and the TIMING of the chained together punches can do ridiculous damage.

Like i said, it's just diffferent kind of power I dont like saying one is better than the other, I just marvel at them both

Mike Tyson was able to generate accurate and powerful punches over very short distances with great boxing fundamentals. As an example check how he won the Botha fight after being bullied for 4 rounds and behind on points. Maybe Ngannou has more raw power when the punch is unconstrained. If Ngannou started as a boxer from an early age and learned the sport he probably would have been one of the best.

You always hear about Ngannou's legendary power as a former sand miner, which is truly remarkable. Some might even have the audacity to claim it's the greatest of all time, surpassing the power of prime Mike Tyson. But I disagree. I’d argue that prime Tyson had something uniquely special—something almost transcendent, like Michael Jordan's ability on the basketball court. It’s the kind of greatness that is nearly impossible to replicate. What’s your take on this?
Tyson said, himself, that it wasn't necessarily the power of his punches that was especially devastating. While he certainly was powerful, what really set him apart was his explosiveness. Professional fighters learn to move with the punches which takes off a lot of the force from head shots. Its why oftentimes they can go the distance and neither fighter looks to much the worse for wear. This is also why they say its the one that you don't see coming that knocks you out. Tyson had a special ability to hit people with a lot of $%@! that they didn't see coming. In light of the fact that people try to claim that Ngannou has the strongest punch ever, it would be more interesting to compare Ngannou's power with George Foreman, Deontay Wilder, or Ernie Shavers. I strongly suspect that Ngannou's power couldn't hold a candle to them.

Wilder had insane god given power too. Alot of his knockouts, even he looks surprised when the guy goes down. For all of his wild swinging, its usually the short hook that just decimates people. Guys fall down like they got shot from just a quick short hook and he's like "oh! ...ok!"

Poatan has some KO's like that too, where he look like he dont even know his own strength.
Good call on Wilder. Probably the best comparison to Ngannou, now that you bring it up

Poatan has insane power, I get that he's huge and mean looking, but he makes it look effortless.

Pure power? It's not unthinkable, I personally think someone like George foreman had more power than Mike Tyson.

What made Mike special wasn't just his power, his speed, footwork, and tenacity in combination with his nuclear fists made him one of a kind. No one to this day has that kind of combined ability that Mike had, the athleticism and power and knowledge of the game was off the chain. If Mike came up in this game now and not in the corrupt Era he came up in, he would be undisputed, undefeated and unmatched. This man went to prison and was world champion in 3 months time, I can't imagine if he got the chance to do his career all over again with someone to guide him along the way.
If Cus had been blessed with another 10 years it would have been incredible

People just put anything in this forum. Are these UFC fighters? Why are we talking boxing?

getting stupid threads of 2025 off to an early start I see.....

Tyson is the most gifted puncher because he has enough power to make it close with guys like Ngannou, but he’s just much faster, crisper, and more technical.

Tyson’s ability to deliver power without long wind ups, set ups, or much space is what makes it so special. Some of the giants like Francis, Foreman, etc can probably pack more pure wallop if they all get a chance to unload on a target.

Who the F cares? Tyson had punching power. Francis has punching power. Foreman and Liston had punching power, too.

Who had the most punching power? There's no way to know, and who cares anyway, can't we just appreciate these guys for what they could do rather than get into silly, subjective, and unprovable discussions about who hit harder?

Ernie Shavers by most accounts was the hardest puncher in a hard punching HW era... watching young Foreman work a heavy bag and you'd think he'd give Frank a run for his money.

Tyson had a ton of power but was also so much faster than most traditional big HWs. P4P I'd say Roy Jones Jr is up there too.
Shavers according to most of the boxers that faced him hit as hard as anyone could. Guy only started training in his 20s, if he had been guided earlier he would have been an all time great.

The fight right before he got into the UFC was kind of like that, he just kind of stood there then paced around like "Oh, he's dead."
