Does Dricus have to finish Izzy to win?

How much do you think Dricus' cardio has really improved since his nose surgery/last performance? Personally I think while it could have improved, Izzy has the more tested cardio and will definitely bank the last 2 rounds if it gets there and with judges generally favoring champions in close fights is it safe to say Dricus' only path to victory is to get a TKO or a Sub early?

The only way I could see Dricus winning a decision is if he has 5 round wrestling cardio, and can easily take Izzy down every round. If he fails alot of takedowns it will probably leave him tired and vulnerable on the feet.

Izzy is hard to finish. Also hard to hold down at MW. Dricus could outperform Izzy with a mix of TD strikes but a finish within 3rd seems like better probability. Think Izzy keeps him at bay and out points or even gets a finish later as Dricus gets frustrated. Jan showed the path for strong man method. Alex a great striker. Dricus has power but Izzy reach can probably avoid a KO.

Izzy has to defend his takedowns, DDP takes him down, depending how much time in each round and the fight will get ugly fast, DDP is a finisher.

I keep thinking about the Gastelum fight. That was without a doubt the closest fight that Israel ever won. And Duplo is bigger, stronger, younger and harder to hurt.

Israel has improved since then. But by how much? Hard to say. I think Adesanya is the safe bet on this fight--- but there's a reason he's so shook

it would be Dricus' best chance of winning. his style lends itself to finishes, not decisions. Izzy is very good at controlling distance and defending takedowns so Dricus really needs to press him for a finish by sub or GNP early and often if he is to have a chance. i can see Izzy taking Dricus' legs out over the course of a 5 round fight

Yes. DDP ain’t a decision fighter.

He only has had one fight in his entire career go to decision.

With him it’s kill or be killed

It is a more likely path to victory for him, not because of cardio but simply a drawn out fight at range favors Izzy who is clearly the better striker. If Dricus closes the range, wrestles or unleashes his power he could end it quickly.

Izzy has shown in the last few fights he can be hurt, so who knows. I think it will actually be a pretty interesting fight.
