Does cutting your hairline too far back ruin it?

I remember triming my bangs when I was in high school and it created a small bald spot but, it grew back . Idk , I think alot of urban legends about things that cause hair loss are just myths .

Supposedly it makes your dick look bigger, IIRC

Would be cool to have a choice to shape your hairline after age 25-30, but nooooo

have to go bald.

I dunno, I also heard from a barber having long hair especially tied back does the same thing... Seems mythical to me.

It does thin our your Hair If it's too tight. Women in the Military especially Female Marines that pull their hair tight in a Bun have had noticeable hair loss.

The term alopecia refers to hair loss. Traction alopecia is hair loss that’s caused by repeatedly pulling on your hair. You can develop this condition if you often wear your hair in a tight ponytail, bun, or braids, especially if you use chemicals or heat on your hair.

But then surely we'd see many more receded hairlines on women in general no?

I don't know it will actually recede their hairline at the base , but it thins out the volume of hair , my friend showed me a picture of herself before she joined the military and her locks were more vibrant.

Could just be down to the stress.

What do y'all think?

What the heck? I thought this dude was just balding hard-core during Madmen.

By making him look older, It almost made his character make less sense in the context of the show. Maybe some weak attempt to make his mistress look like she was right in not keeping their child? Such a weird choice.

Or is that an urban legend?

I've always heard (especially among brothas) the importance of not cutting your hair too far back or it will never grow back right.

This does not make too much sense to me, but I am wondering if there is truth to it. Why would the hair follicles stop growing because you cut them? How does your hairline know the difference between cutting it with regular clippers vs lining it up?

Also, why does this logic only apply to hairlines? Like, why doesn't one's beard or mustache get "pushed back"?

I have a cousin whose hairline practically looks like Balrog from Street Fighter. His parents used to (attempt to) cut his hair as a kid.

Idk though. Urban legends usually come from somewhere but there doesn't appear to be any scientific basis to this claim. Perhaps the causation is backwards. Someone's hairline begins receding... the barber cuts it further back to make it look "sharper" and more defined, people attribute the succession to the haircut.

That's now how hair works.

Artificial hairlines seem so freaking weird to me. Just like comb overs. Who you trying to fool?

Traction alopecia is actually pretty well documented (but it's not that common and more associated with really tight traction on the follicle root), but to answer TS' question I think that hairline thing is a myth.

People with receding hairlines blaming the barber.

Vincent was told to do it for the role in Mad Men, it wasn't because he thought it looked neat or what have you.

Oh, I just Googled "receding hairline" and he was one of the results. Lol

Traction alopecia. I learned about the term when I was reading about chav culture, and the Croydon facelift was mentioned.

Bingo! That's the term.

Stevie probably got a tender head like all them sistas I knew growing up with braids and hair weaves

You're wrong for that brah.

That could be true because I have hair like an Aussie surfer but can’t see 5 feet in front of me
