For starters, He hops on Luke's back and strains himself there a whole round exhausting himself instead of letting go.

He throws the worst wheel kick ever which ends him up on his back being absolutely pulverized from the bottom.

Zero bottom game, just taking one of the worst beatings ever on his left orbital bone.

He starts telegraphing TD's against a former olympian who is known for one hit KO's and gets his left orbital bone cracked:

A BJJ fighter keeps tagging him with the exact same overhand right round after round. Weidman's best defense is to block them with the sweet spot of his face till this happens:

He takes a legal knee to that spot again and then pretends to be too hurt to continue but his acting job backfires. Even the worst actor ever in Sterling didn't botch an easy cheap win. Weidman's just not smart enough.

Here he leaps in with his hands down missing flailing punches, against a known counter puncher with quick feet.

And of course the cherrry on top his latest fight. A fully powered, telegraphed calf kick(the first he ever tried) with no set-up and with no hip turning technique, in the opening of the fight.

Does Weidman have the worst fight IQ in MMA history but also all combat sports history perhaps even all top level sports? If so, does this make him the biggest overachiever of all time?

I think it's a combination of bad luck, physical decline and the absolute CTE inducing beating Luke Rockhold gave him.

At one point people thought Chris would have given Jones a run for his money. Insane how quickly the sport changes

Anthony Smith.

Let machismo stop him from taking a DQ win in a championship fight, etching his name into history, and forever changing his family's future. If that's not dumb I don't know what is. Blah blah honor blah blah warrior.

Nothing is worst then that guy who fought shawn o mally, I would also say gilbert burns has very low fight iq.

Dude has brain facts but he held a belt. Not to mention solved the Gaethje puzzle in a brilliant manner.

He gets by because of how tough he is (or used to be), not because of puzzle solving.

Doesn't really seem like it wen you watch him fight but Michael Johnson has to be up there

There's no way a guy can be such a tough fight for the world's greatest fighters yet constantly lose to mid tier guys unless he fights dumb a lot of the time

Yeah, you don't seem to catch some of the nuances of his game. He's not a technical savant but come on. Breaking down Gaethje with good footwork and bodywork is pretty great fight IQ. Or nullifying RDA's pressure with footwork and then catching him with an offbeat counter. Or for a really boring example, just pressing up Pettis against the cage for a win.

Guys with poor fight IQ don't win belts usually, let alone in as tough a division as LW.

You've made some compelling arguments here.

On some level though I think it has to do with luck.

Weidman is the guy that get's screwed first a lot of the time. Like that knee and the calf kick.

Other times I think he became overconfident in his striking like after beating Anderson Silva twice on the feet or both like the calf kick.

Is that a 'fight iq issue'? Well, maybe.

People, so often, overlook the aspects of luck or fortune in aspects of life. The human mind is tuned to find patterns and sometimes those patterns fit into a hypothesis by coincidence and seems like the truth when taken out of context but really is has more to do with bolstering up some other storyline.

It reminds me of that line I heard somewhere, "The pioneers get the arrows. The settlers get the land."
