Does anyone think Suarez will be "new"?

10-0
Big
A lot of finishes

I would prefer to see Zhang display greatness and win … but she’s seemed to skate by danger too many times for my liking … and at 35 … I’m taking Suarez

Rooting for Zhang though
Tatiana is 34

She finished Andrade in the first round didn't she?

2nd. And Suarez did look better in that one than vs MDLR imo. But still not as explosive as she was 5-6 years ago. Plus she had yet another major injury after the Andrade fight.

A few years ago I thought Suarez was a nightmare for everyone at 115 and 125. But I am not as convinced against Zhang. It should be interesting. Zhang probably wins by a late tko or decision.

No it's not. Not mentally. Tatiana doesn't strike me as someone who folds under pressure.
Mental state can wildly vary in different scenarios. Surviving cancer is mostly a passive experience, undergoing treatment, resting in a bed, hospital visits, basically lots of boring downtime.

A positive mindset usually improves survival chances and probably makes the experience less miserable, but it remains fundamentally different from an active and immediate survival scenario like a fistfight.

Hope so. The lady deserves it.

Would Suarez winning decisively mostly because of her elite wrestling mean that it's relatively easy for world class practitioners of other fighting sports to transition to MMA and dominate/become world champions??

I think Weili is going to win btw.

I think Weili makes mince meat out of her. Suarez is facing a machine and the machine will chew her up and spit her out.

Tatiana should be the favorite. Her size and wrestling makes her a tough fight for anyone in the division. She can be a wrecking ball but I am not sure about her ability to overcome adversity.

Zhang has a lot of fights and her reflexes isn't as sharp. She has been doing the "Valentina" and using her ground game to win fights. I watched some of her interviews and it seemed like she isn't that enthusiastic about fighting. There are might be a translation issue because of subtitles.

She will win. She sounds like cyborg now. It'll take someone with the striking and power of Amanda nunes to beat her.

It could happen, I took Weili at +115 though, underdog champion doesn't happen often.

She struggled to get her grappling really going against MDLR in her 2nd to last fight (which was like 3+ years ago). Jumped guillotine to win.
Yes, she does have good wrestling and a good squeeze and yes she can win. But let's slow down on the "female Khabib" stuff. He proved it over a long career vs top guys. She's had 3 fights in 6 years and has never even been in a 5 rounder.
He struggled to get his grappling going vs Tibau.

Arguably … lost too.

Weili is going to lose.

In what, his 2nd UFC fight? I agree, that was a coin toss decision.

It's just a dumb comparison at this point. Suarez has 10 pro fights, at 34 year old. She still has time to make her mark but that window is closing. Khabib made his mark and was done at an age younger than Suarez is now. Comparing them at this point makes no sense. If she wins tonight...yes that's absolutely a huge step in making the comparison valid. Winning the belt vs a legit top flight opponent will validate her and shown that she's still the girl that everyone was raving about 7 years ago.

It seems oddsmakers are kind to Tatiana but this interests me. The division may be thin because Suarez got it off nearly a year and a half absence. She's been injured a lot and therefore doesn't have many fights

She's great but I hope she's ready to participate more. Zhang hasn't lost to anyone not named Rose in the last 11 years but Rose isn't an offensive wrestler, I'm really curious how she will match up. Zhang has looked incredible. As for Tatiana her best performance was against Esparza imo. Zhang had the more efficient performance against her though

I'm rooting for Suarez but I do think Weili should be more favored
Nope
She’s too fragile

Weili was outwrestled by Thug Rose. Not a good sign.
But Tatiana really seems like she should wilt under that kind of pressure. Cardio-wise, but also mentally.
So of course what's most likely to happen is Tatiana trying to jab her from distance all fight.

The opposite end of the coin here is Rose and Yan both were great strikers who set up the takedowns opportunisticly with their striking

The striking threat from Tatiana isn’t there and she just needs to focus on stuffing the take downs

Tatiana also has not been very active and has never been in a 5 rounder

I'm not sure. As others have pointed out: She lacks experience in five round fights, and did not look the same after her return. She's been plagued by injuries and lost a lot of time due to them. She's also never fought anyone with Weili's combination of athletism, strength, experience, striking and grappling skills. Let's not forget Weili has fought five rounds FOUR times in the UFC as well.

HOWEVER, Weili has fought only once two years in a row, is getting up there in age for MMA standards, and hasn't faced anyone with the top control that Tatiana has. She leveled up her grappling immensely, but her cardio has suffered from it as shown in her last fight with Yan Xiaonan.

I think it's going to be a fun fight, that more than likely will be a grappling heavy fest going the distance instead of ending via finish as most expect. I'm not confident in picking either of them, but I'll never forgive Weili for knocking out Joanna like she did, so I wouldn't be mad if Tatiana mauls her.
