Does anyone think Suarez will be "new"?

Suarez is the female khabib, highest female level grappling and BJJ

She struggled to get her grappling really going against MDLR in her 2nd to last fight (which was like 3+ years ago). Jumped guillotine to win.
Yes, she does have good wrestling and a good squeeze and yes she can win. But let's slow down on the "female Khabib" stuff. He proved it over a long career vs top guys. She's had 3 fights in 6 years and has never even been in a 5 rounder.

Suarez is the slightly longer fighter. Both fighters have comparable sized jawlines. Although, I think Weili is coming for Suarez and Suarez's inactivity and lack of a 5rd fight will have her struggling in the later rounds. Suarez must submit Weili early or she may exit the cage looking like E.T.
Just my opinion.

I think Zhang will get it done but if Suarez comes in like she used to before the long layoff, we will be in for a real good fight.

Yeah, Tatiana is more like female hazmat.
The fight will probably end with doctor stoppage, or she even has time to injure herself or get sick before the fight.

I'm torn.
On the one hand, I would be happy for Tatiana if she won.
On the other hand, given her susceptibility to injury, I wonder if it would be good to have another champion who can only fight every 2-3 years.
If she can finally manage to go a longer period without an injury, then please Tatiana.

EDIT: And I like Zhang, she is mostly in exiting fights.

The funny thing about Suarez is... was she a better fighter when she entered the UFC than she is now?
She entered as a powerhouse wrestler/grappler.
Now she's a powerhouse wrestler/grappler were all the screws on her joints are dangling and half-loosened.
Her striking has gotten better... but its still only thoroughly mediocre. That's really not what she should be relying on to win.

Zhang's performance might have been more efficient against Carla if you're just looking at Zhang finishing it earlier, but other than that, it wasn't really.

Carla got her down once, had a min of control time, and landed 19 strikes within 2 rounds. Meanwhile, she couldn't get Tatiana down at all, only landed 12 strikes, and got controlled for more than 4 mins in all 3 rounds before getting finished.

I mean, Tat was so efficient that Carla landed less strikes than she even threw against Zhang lol.

I think this fight just comes down to whether or not Zhang can survive the early rounds and make Tat gas. Tat isn't proven at all in 5 rounders. If she can survive the early rounds while making Tat gas, she can fight off her back foot and leap in with hard strikes to take over easily.

I think we'll get a finish within 3.5 rounds. Probably Tatiana finishing.

Yeah, agree completely. Caveats being how well has she recovered from yet another injury and cardio which is unknown.

I personally think Zhang will win, think Zhang will have a bigger skill advantage in the striking over Suarez, than Suarez has in the wrestling.

Tatiana is 34, didnt notice this. Damn she really has been plagued by those injuries.

I’ve got Zhang winning, but a close fight. 48-47 Zhang

It's a great matchup because of so much unknown about Saurez, but outside of an injury during the fight, I feel strongly that Saurez is going to win convincingly. Yes, I'm going to put some money on Saurez.

Saurez is bigger, stronger wrestler and well rounded enough to stay even with Zhang on the feet. That said, it wouldn't shock me if Saurez gets injured during the fight and cost me a lot of money.

It seems oddsmakers are kind to Tatiana but this interests me. The division may be thin because Suarez got it off nearly a year and a half absence. She's been injured a lot and therefore doesn't have many fights

She's great but I hope she's ready to participate more. Zhang hasn't lost to anyone not named Rose in the last 11 years but Rose isn't an offensive wrestler, I'm really curious how she will match up. Zhang has looked incredible. As for Tatiana her best performance was against Esparza imo. Zhang had the more efficient performance against her though

I'm rooting for Suarez but I do think Weili should be more favored
I love both fighters and am KINDA rooting for Zhang...
But I do think Suarez will take it.
I think she and Patchy Mix are two of the more underrated fighters.

Suarez is one of the best examples of a fighter with GOAT potential hobbled by injuries. Hope she can pill off the W at this level of cpmpetition.

Lol khabib is known for having a short career and not fighting the top guys. Lololol. Like that's literally what the haters attack him for

All true, but that was also like 6-7 years and numerous surgeries ago for Suarez. Meanwhile Weili has obsessively worked on her grappling and has been active against top competiton the whole time that Tatiana has been injured and had 3 fights in like 6 years.

I think-barring fights where one or both are clearly way past their prime--we sometimes make the mistake of thinking we are gonna see the best version of each fighter in fights like this. Looking at it objectively, is that fair to expect from Suarez here? Long layoff, a ton of injury mileage and surgeries...and she didn't look anywhere near as explosive vs MDLR or Andrade as she did back in the Esparza fight. She jumped guillotine to win both her last two fights (which were...again...years ago).

Maybe Suarez is **finally** fully healthy and won't have any ring rust and will look explosive and like she did 6 years ago. It's possible. I think expecting that is optimistic. And even if she does, she's never had a 5 round fight. She slowed a ton vs Nunes in rd 3. (Was injured iirc). You mentioned it I think, but we have no clue if her cardio holds up.

People betting her as a favorite is perplexing to me. Can she win? Absolutely, there's a clear ptv. But favoring her? No way. I'll take Weili at these odds and have zero regrets.

Yeh, good points. I am definitely assuming the best possible version of Tatiana, which is probably pretty stupid lol.

I sorta overlooked the injuries and lack of fights. Didn't realize it has been over 1.5 years since she fought. She didn't even fight at all in 2024.

Looking at the face offs, I thought she'd be a lot taller than Zhang as well, but she's not. For some reason I always assume Zhang is tiny, but once she's in there I see she's not lol.

I still think this will be decided one way or another within 3.5 rounds or so. Gonna be a good one.
