It seems oddsmakers are kind to Tatiana but this interests me. The division may be thin because Suarez got it off nearly a year and a half absence. She's been injured a lot and therefore doesn't have many fights

She's great but I hope she's ready to participate more. Zhang hasn't lost to anyone not named Rose in the last 11 years but Rose isn't an offensive wrestler, I'm really curious how she will match up. Zhang has looked incredible. As for Tatiana her best performance was against Esparza imo. Zhang had the more efficient performance against her though

I'm rooting for Suarez but I do think Weili should be more favored

Weili was outwrestled by Thug Rose. Not a good sign.
But Tatiana really seems like she should wilt under that kind of pressure. Cardio-wise, but also mentally.
So of course what's most likely to happen is Tatiana trying to jab her from distance all fight.

Zhang's performance might have been more efficient against Carla if you're just looking at Zhang finishing it earlier, but other than that, it wasn't really.

Carla got her down once, had a min of control time, and landed 19 strikes within 2 rounds. Meanwhile, she couldn't get Tatiana down at all, only landed 12 strikes, and got controlled for more than 4 mins in all 3 rounds before getting finished.

I mean, Tat was so efficient that Carla landed less strikes than she even threw against Zhang lol.

I think this fight just comes down to whether or not Zhang can survive the early rounds and make Tat gas. Tat isn't proven at all in 5 rounders. If she can survive the early rounds while making Tat gas, she can fight off her back foot and leap in with hard strikes to take over easily.

I think we'll get a finish within 3.5 rounds. Probably Tatiana finishing.

True that. What makes me remember Tatiana vs Carla is Tatiana ragdolled the fuck out of Carla the whole fight. Carla is a good wrestler too

Yeh, no one has done Carla with the wrestling like that before. It wasn't even competitive on the mat.

In a 3 round fight with 13 mins of grappling, It was 4 secs of control time and 0/2 on takedowns for Carla to 12:57 of control time and 9/11 on takedowns for Tatiana. Add in 136-12 in strikes and a finish from guard.

That's a complete ass whooping.

Ik she's undefeated and all that but I'm still surprised she's a betting favorite this fight

Well, Tatiana definitely has all the skills to dominate the division...at least she had 5 years ago, when she should have fought for the belt. No one may truly say how her being only able to fight two times in 5 years will affect the performance. I won't be suprised either if she dominates Weili, or gets obliterated.

Pre-neck injury Tatiana would have dominated imo, I think it's 50/50 with her after the neck injury.

This is how I feel about it, it's very hard for me to trust the performance of a fighter that has gone through this degree of injuries and has been mostly inactive for many years....and then on top of that relies on physicality and wrestling in their mid-30s.

All true, but that was also like 6-7 years and numerous surgeries ago for Suarez. Meanwhile Weili has obsessively worked on her grappling and has been active against top competiton the whole time that Tatiana has been injured and had 3 fights in like 6 years.

I think-barring fights where one or both are clearly way past their prime--we sometimes make the mistake of thinking we are gonna see the best version of each fighter in fights like this. Looking at it objectively, is that fair to expect from Suarez here? Long layoff, a ton of injury mileage and surgeries...and she didn't look anywhere near as explosive vs MDLR or Andrade as she did back in the Esparza fight. She jumped guillotine to win both her last two fights (which were...again...years ago).

Maybe Suarez is **finally** fully healthy and won't have any ring rust and will look explosive and like she did 6 years ago. It's possible. I think expecting that is optimistic. And even if she does, she's never had a 5 round fight. She slowed a ton vs Nunes in rd 3. (Was injured iirc). You mentioned it I think, but we have no clue if her cardio holds up.

People betting her as a favorite is perplexing to me. Can she win? Absolutely, there's a clear ptv. But favoring her? No way. I'll take Weili at these odds and have zero regrets.

Weili has been kind of shaky as champ. She's obviously loss to Rose already, but against Yan she had the fight wrapped up and somehow dragged it out. I don't think she's some unbeatable force at SW and Suarez probably wants it more.

Maybe. I have zero faith in my abilities trying to predict this at all.

If only Suarez was not a wrestler. I would like her if she was a striker or grappler.

It's been awhile since I watched that fight and the stats probably don't tell the whole story but ufcstats says Zhang hit 5 TD's against Rose's 2.
