This maybe sacrilegious, but I got to ask.

Even during the 80s run. Anyone think he's not funny at all?

I'm really curious to see how many people think he's not funny on here if any.

I think he was only good in the 80s, Coming to America was his peak.

Than it went downhill from there, never found his movies after the 80s amusing enough for me.

I loved him as Axel Foley and can't imagine anyone else bringing char to life as he had. Witty, charming, eyes on him every scene because of his electricity...

He has a few really good comedies from that time period like Trading Places, which is a killer flick, but his material from later decades like the Dolittle stuff isn't good to me.

Voted option #2 but with the caveat that he did super as VA for the donkey in Shrek across, what, 4 films? 80s stuff + Shrek VA for me.

The game changed I don't think Eddie was comfortable being anything else but Eddie, he didn't look comfortable and authentic in his later films....... Comedians need to be authentic.......

I loved his stand up when I was a kid. I got my wife to watch one and it felt so dated and unfunny to me. Maybe it was one of those things you had to be around for and into at the time.

This is what happens when your entire post history is all about making polls.
You start running out of things to ask so you starting thinking of moronic questions.

yea, I never thought of him as funny.

Only comedians I liked were Carlin and Hicks and even these don’t impress or entertain me anymore.

Oh and I loved Leslie Nelson as a kid. Still like his approach to comedy.

I thought his stand-up was funny in the 80's but then i rewatched it as an adult and it didn't age well at all.

He was a good performer on SNL but really I think he's one of those guys that lost his hunger when he got rich and stopped developing his craft.

That so true, I strongly believe that as well. His hunger and motivation isn't there after the 80s imo. He lost his touch.

Taste is subjective, but he's one of the most successful comedians/comedic actors ever ... with a good claim on being the most successful. It's safe to say, most people disagree with you. And they bought him this house to prove it.

Yes he IS funny. He definitely hit a low point though once we entered the 2000's but his last movie that I saw, Dolemite was pretty good. His brother Charlie, while less famous was just as funny.

His catalogue is really pretty good, with a few stand out duds in there too.

I do get the impression that he's probably not the greatest guy to hang around with.....seems a bit of a sociopath.

He’s been funny his whole career. If he kept the same style he did from the 80’s he’d have been cancelled. People get older and they change. He’s pretty tame now but still funny.

I think the only comedian that got funnier as they got older was George Carlin. Reminds me of myself. I was happy in my youthful years and now that I understand how the world works, I’m a bitter old man who hates everything but can still have a sense of humor.

Well fair enough, if that what you equate success and contentment.
