The way I see it....

Poatan vs Ulberg - This fight shouldn't be prolonged, there aren't any other contenders at LHW right now aside Jiri who lost to Poatan 2x already. Ulberg is on a 9 fight win streak.

Jiri vs Blachowicz/Guskov winner - If Jiri wins then he's the legit #1 contender regardless of whom in the champion and should fight for the belt.

Ankalaev vs Routree - this can get both guys back into contender status. Since neither is likely to fight Poatan again and both are his latest victims, they should be a bit behind the rest of the pack.

I think it depends on Alex's future plans. If he is only going to fight 1 more time at LHW then he should fight Ulberg. If he plans to fight two more times. I could see Ulberg then Jiri, then move to HW after.

I think 1 more fight at LHW then move up.

I also wouldn't make Alex vacate the belt because he fights often enough.

Alex is old and will probably want to get a big payday and then retire. Maybe Jones will give it to him.

Jiri was eating some bombs against Khalil and Alex has managed to finish him twice. I just don't see the point unless Jiri beats Ank and Alex defends the belt against Ulberg

I don't. If I wanted to see Jiri get finished by Pereira, I'm already spoiled for choice by picking one of the two first fights already that aren't even 2 years old at this point.

I know that I'm weird as an MMA fan because I'd rather see a deserving fighter who will definitely lose challenge for the title over a less deserving guy who could win, but in this case, we already know both of them will lose, so I'd rather it be Ulberg. That is, if Pereira's next fight is a LHW defense anyway. Could solve all problems by having him queue up for winner of Aspinall-Gane, then do Ulberg-Jiri for the vacant.

He seemed very disappointed with his early performance against Rountree. I think he knows if he gets hit like that by Alex, the fight is over again. But that's still not going to be enough to make him say, "No, lemme get one more in first."

Damn, Jiri is becoming the next Max Holloway/Bobby Knuckles. He destroys anyone in the division not named Poatan, just can't beat the champ. I do wanna see a 3rd fight eventually since Jiri vs Alex is never a boring matchup and I have faith Jiri can do better. But for now it's Ulberg for the titleshot.

He's "destroyed" them by getting his ass kicked for 90% of the fight and then pulling off a KO comeback?

I love Jiri, but he's nowhere near a Max/Whittaker/Benavidez level of 2nd best. The guy's record absolutely could've had a tons more losses precisely because he keeps fighting guys that are actually far better than him.

Jiri's biggest strength is that he lacks enough brain power to say fuck it and go for a finish when he needs it.

I admire Jiri's willingness to push himself and how he doesn't give up his will power. However the will of fans to move forward will prevent this from happening. Maybe down the road when Pereira is irrelevant, they can run it back.
