Do you think umar will take a fight after Bautista?

Umar is technically next in line after this fight even though mario is a can.

While umar waited 10 months for his next fight, merab has defended the belt twice and will be making third defense since the umar fight a few weeks later. By the end of the year Merab will be making laps over the rest of BW who he has dominated.

Merab has earned the right to move up and do a super fight against volk. The fight will solidy the earnings of both volk and merab and afford them a comfortable retirement.

So it looks like unless merab vacates the belt umar is waiting until late 2026 for a title shot. Do you think he takes a fight in the mean time?

The other possibility is merab vacates the belt or of if there is an intern belt in the meantime. In which case you likely see omalley vs umar for those belts.

Before you guys whine you know omalley will get the title shot. The ufc doesn't care about who deserves it when it comes to omalley.

Anyways, there's not much of a queue of contenders at this point at 135. If Merab beats Yan & Umar beats Bautista, the UFC will book the rematch. Why would Umar take another fight than a title fight if he didn't have to?

Umar definitely deserves a rematch.

Merab also dislikes him enough to want to fight him again.

So hopefully it's something we see.

I'd rather see that than some of the fights Merab has been hinting at.

I think if it's a back-and-forth fight that ends in a decision, he'll probably have to fight again. If he mops the floor with Mario and gets the finish, he'll probably get his 2nd chance.

So I did read your entire post but you kinda lost me at "Mario is a can". Mario Bautista may not be the most exciting fighter but he is anything but a can imo. His striking is very clean and he's very well rounded. Where I'm picking Umar to defeat him via decision, he's a real threat to Nurmagomedov when they fight; I don't think Umar's takedowns will come super easily.

Anyways TS, I do think Umar will take a 2nd non title fight. Because in December I will expect Pantoja to call out merab if both win, and that's a new exciting fight, vs a guy who's got more than 1 win.

Umar had 10 months between fights because he broke his hand twice in like 2 months and needed surgery and recovery.

Definitely unusual for Merab's most active year of his career to be the year AFTER he wins the title, but you're getting way ahead of yourself in assuming that not only will be beat Yan again, but that he'll then move to FW when he hasn't really expressed an interest in moving up and the UFC certainly haven't given him the green light to do it.

If Umar beat Bautista, he could certainly fight for the title in the spring.

If Umar gets past Bautista I still think he should have to get another win to get a rematch with Merab. Umar vs Merab was a closer fight than a lot of people would have you think but it was still a pretty clear loss in my opinion.

Doubt it. What exactly has Mario done that all of a sudden people think he's anywhere near Umar's level? Beat Patchy, who just lost to a random guy in his debut that nobody knows? Cage hugged Aldo for 15 minutes? Nothing I've ever seen from him tells me he's can compete with an Umar, Merab, or even Yan or Sandhagen.

Edit: but he's not a "can". He's a solid fighter. Just not elite.
