Do you think some UFC fighters will move to PFL if first season will be successful?

Their first card is on Thursday. They already have good amount of very interesting fighters on their roster. Tournament formula with seasons, playoffs and 1 million dollar prize for champion of each division. With UFC pay structure, it could be a good alternative for some fighters.

What do you think?

Conor will take all of the belts, then challenge Jones to a coke snorting contest.

Just like Affliction, its gonna die.

No way that business model is sustainable.

I think they'll be outta business by Friday

If its successful it might pull some of the lower tier fighters. Dont think it will do anything to the top fighters.

I predict it will steal as many and be as successful as the last league based MMA promotion

I wish them the best and hope they can succeed and provide another solid MMA org for fighters to compete in, but, I don’t know how they’re going to last more than this season unless people are willing to just dump money into it.

I’m not sure casuals even know its MMA, they just call it UFC fighting. Bellator has had its foot in the door for some time now and it’s not like it does some amazing sort of numbers. Really don’t see how WSOF rebranding and changing name is going to attract more people to watch it but, I wish them good luck. Tough road ahead but maybe they can end up just being a solid feeder league like how WSOF was.

It’s a posibility since the money would be a good hook in getting those fighters to cross over

But it’ll depend on other factors as well like how well the public takes to PFL. If it gains popularity then maybe.

For hardcore though we’ve seen many orgs come and go, wasn’t PFL originally the abbreviation for palace fighting championships?

Sure, when the UFC is done with them.

mmm. If the money is good, then I suppose

Honestly, if I am the UFC, I am looking to sign the PFL winners. Seems like a decent way to scout

It might be worth for some #6-#10 UFC guys to take a gamble and try their luck for the grand prize. The skill level is low, that means easier fights, and the 1 million prize is much more than they would make in the UFC for an equivalent number of fights.

Winning a million dollars then making five and five doesn't sound good. And to be honest some of these guys might only be 5 and 5 fighters.

I am not even sure who is on the roster other than Brooks in all honesty.

However winning a league such as this is impressive to an extent. But I bet the goal for these guys is to get into the UFC

But how many fights do you have to win to get that million? What will the other guys get? Are the fighters paid for each fight, and the million is extra, or are they only paid once according to their rank ?

I'm not convinced this is such a good opportunity not that it is sustainable for the promotion.

PFL is old WSOF transformed into a new format with new owners. There was a MMA org Palace Fighting Championships which lasted 1 year 2008-2009 (i googled it), but it has nothing to do with it.

1 million is a grand prize if you win tournament in your division, but you get cash (not sure how much) aside of that too:

"The PFL will feature a regular season, win-or-go-home playoffs and a championship night on New Year's Eve. The top-eight fighters from each weight class will make the playoffs and the fighter who emerges as champion from all six divisions will win $1 million on Championship Night.

In total, there will be $10 million in prize money awarded to fighters in the playoffs, not to mention a monthly cash stipend for all fighters during the regular season. Each fighter is signed to an exclusive multi-year contract."

Apart of some ex UFC fighters they have quite amount of prospects which were discussed on sherdog as guys to be singed by UFC. Abubakar Nurmagomedov, cousin of Khabib, signed with UFC, then pulled from UFC event and went back to PFL for example.
