Do you remember when Jurrassic Park first released?

Yeah, and I remember The Last Action Hero was out around the same time and I thought, "Man, I wonder which movie would make more money?" as Arnold was coming off of Terminator 2. Well...it certainly wasn't Last Action Hero (though I saw both movies in the theater and enjoyed both).

I'll never forget that moment in the theatre when the brachiosaurus emerged. It seemed everyone sunk back in their seats and gasped. That movie was a masterpiece and was honestly one of the best theatre films ever, especially upon first view. A shame it was followed up by so many pathetic sequels.

I agree that the book was better but still it was a huge leap in movie making at that time.

I read the book before the films release and even though a ton was left out, the movie was absolutely amazing. Even Crichton said it exceeded his expectations and was blown away by it.

JP was a critical and box office smash which had a massive influence on future films and filmmakers. Its all we were talking about that year and its the one film i wish i could watch in the theatre for the 1st time again.

Spielberg was a master at making movies for the big screen. Could only imagine what Jaws would have been like to movie goers in 76.

Great Flick, astounding special effects !

Saw it with my grandma and thought it was the coolest movie I ever saw. Ate way too much candy and junk and came home and puked. Fun times. Absolutely love the t Rex and the explorer scene. Made me wish dinosaur hunting was a thing. Like there should be another movie where the island is treated as a game reserve.

All I really remember is when that T Rex released.

Took me days to clean that nasty $hit out of my ears.

I was twelve years old when it came out. I was blown away, everyone was. The 90s were a crazy time for tech innovations. I was already kind of past the age to have awe and wonder for dinosaurs but this movie brought that feeling back.

It was breathtaking for sure. Everybody was blown away. That first scene that pans out to the dinos as Sam Neil/Laura Dern's face is astonished and the main thematic score kicks in is a moving moment.

Absolutely incredible special effects that pushed the envelope in cinema.

That’s a very long neck … just like yours when I’ll uppercut you.

One of the best theater experiences for sure.

My dad took me when I was 13. We had just moved to WA and was living in a very rural area. We were pretty poor so didn't have satellite and TV reception was garbage, so I really knew nothing about the movie going into it.

The opening scene was pretty exciting, but you were intentionally left in the dark on what was in the cage. I remember after that scene being kind of board as a kid waiting for something good to happen.

When they showed off the dinos and music score came crashing in, I was absolutely blown away. It's imprinted on me as one of the most memorable movie moments of my life time. I knew the move had dinos but because I hadn't seen any trailers I was fully expecting claymation and poor computer effects from the time.

I wasn't all that impressed by it at the time.

Terminator 2 came out the year before and that was revolutionary in terms of visual effects. It still looks amazing today. Jurassic Park just built upon what James Cameron had already done, and IMO the end result is inferior to T2.

Ya. The wide shot of all the Dino’s and the music underneath. I still remember it

First. Two totally different films with different effect types. Not sure how you are comparing the effects they used for t1000 to a trex chasing after a jeep. If you understand the process you would know how different it is, especially for those primitive times for cg.

Second. T2 just upgraded on what was done in the Abyss.

Third. Nobody had seen dinosaurs come to life like that. Was a whole new experience for movie goers and it inspired the future monster movie craze. The CGI still holds up.

What they did with lighting and effects in JP was overall better imo. T2 however was the better overall movie.

Spent the night at my friend's house after it came out on VHS. I think we watched it 9 times over the course of 36 hours. I think I was 8 or 9 years old at the time.

Still have hankering for "Chili and Sea bass"

I saw it in theatres. I was 13. The first scene where the velociraptor kills the guy was super fucking intense and some ppl had to take their kids out of the theater.

The scene where the t rex kills the raptor and roars as the banner falls in front of it is high art!

I was 9 years old and my parents took my brother and I to see Jurassic Park because our final report cards were good. Terrific experience. I was too young to appreciate the special effects and was instead just completely immersed in the movie. I don't remember the date but it wasn't very long after release. Theater was packed. Three things I have very vivid memories of:

- Gennaro's death. Everybody laughed when the bathroom walls collapsed around him sitting on the toilet. Then shit got real serious when the T-rex chomped into him. I remember being really freaked out by the way the T-rex began thrashing his body around. Theater got real quiet after that.

- My Dad having a huge belly laugh when Malcom said "Think they'll have that on the tour?"

- The "Mr. Hammond, I think we're back in business..." Velociraptor jump scare. Whole theater jumped/screamed. I remember seeing popcorn go airborne.

The more I think about it:
JP theater hype for me was only topped by Star Wars re-release in the theaters (before we knew Gredo shot first) and Ep1 (new star wars after decades)
