Do you miss Rampage Jackson?

Yess 100% I was a huge fan and still am of his old Self. Even have an Extreme Couture T-shirt with the chains and dogs.

His losing in Pride sucked but was ok since he was actually still growing into his prime. Him losing to Forrest because of Bad planning was a real bummer and his down spiral even worse. Glad he didn't just start sucking over night though.

Prime Rampage would easily be LHW champion right now.
 
Rampage had the style that still works today, wrestle boxers with power. His only weakness was kicks, which he could've picked up more defensive skillsets to deal with them if he trained right.

I feel injuries slowed him down also. Although he could've dealt with them in a better way instead of just stopping everything and over eating. And he wasn't a smart guy by getting involved with born again Christian types and getting scammed by them, and then going off on a bender after getting depressed by losing money on those scams. I remembered there was one Harfoufe(sp?) or something who was his spiritual (and probably financial) advisor. Rampage thanked him once in a post fight interview.
 
Prime Rampage beat Cyril Abidi twice under K-1 rules... the first fight, in which Quinton KO'd Abidi in the first round was seen as an upset back then, and the "Marseilles Bad Boy" wanted his revenge.
This time Jackson countered his kickboxing with his boxing, and won a decision.

I know Abidi is probably not regarded very highly by the new generation of UFC fans who missed on the K-1 golden era, but even if he wasn't a champion, he was still very dangerous.
He beat Peter Aerts twice in a row just 2 years before the Rampage fights, and he had his legendary fight against long time rival Jérôme Lebanner 3 years later, and he was still considered to be in his prime at that point (2005).

Oh shit, just remembered that Cyril had a kickboxing fight just a few weeks ago against Rukiya Anpo, and I forgot to check it out... let's see if youtube can help us out...

Rampage might have gotten lucky on every single one of his splits decisions, since they all could have realistically be scored for his opponent and no one would have minded (against Matt Lindland, Ninja Rua, Murilo Bustamante, Lyoto Machida & Satoshi Ishii)...

But he was also a great fighter who would have been a problem for anyone in the current LHW division.

overrated and his behaviour was nothing more than embarrassing outside the ring/cage

Which was some time after the chuck Liddell fight iirc.

His boxing, footwork or defense was never really on that level again.

Had he continued with a really good boxing coach, who knows how good he could've gotten. He obviously had the talent. But I think his issue at the time is he didn't want to pay the money for upper echelon coach.

His schtick was perfect for the mid-2000s... But I think we're doing alright without him.
 
Rampage was an outstanding fighter at best and a dangerous threat to anybody at his worst. Excluding his recent weight gain and fizzled out final competitive years.

Had over 50 MMA fights and dare I suggest that for a good chunk of his career, he didn't take his training seriously enough.
He actually did really well post-pride to fight without taking considerable damage.

If he'd 100% his work ethic and mind toward MMA, I dare say he'd have been in the running as a GOAT talk.
But that is just my speculation.
 
One of my favorites for sure. Enjoyed watching him in Pride and UFC. He like many went past his prime and we now have a bad taste from him staying too long.
