Do You Like The Godfather Movies?

Goodfellas starts with the romanticization of the Mafia life. It looks awesome in the beginning. Then they slowly start peeling the layers away and you see it for what it truly is. That's why I love it.
Yeah i didnt mean that it wasnt there, but it strips it away pretty quickly. Plus unlike Godfather, these guys act like thugs the whole movie, their whole code of conduct is just acting as much of a shithead as possible, and drugs and alcohol etc. Their boss, Paulie was the only guy who acted like he coulda been in Godfather.

In Godfather people werent acting like this.

I've always enjoyed how the more the movie goes on, the more white trash they all start to appear like the way Ray's house gets gaudier. The loud obnoxious nights at the bar where they're all sitting around telling the same stories. It's just so good

Yeah and the hilarious irony here is that in real life, Paul Vario was an absolute scumbag. He got really sanitized in Goodfellas because in real life he was a giant piece of shit, even for mob standards (probably).

I don't think I've seen either film in their entirety. What I saw was pretty good, but I can't comment as a whole.

Loved Goodfellas, though.

Does it glorify it?

Aren't you contradicting yourself there?
I don't think so. I think that Michael and Vito are supposed to be cool. They do cool things. They murder their enemies. The murders are glorified. Again, I'm glad that the movies exist, but as for my favorite movies, I like to see a triumph of the human spirit, like in Ikuru.

Been awhile since I read the true story but wasn't he banging Karen while Henry was in jail?

I am a big fan of the first 2 Godfather films. If you are also a fan I have a recommendation. During the same time period The Godfather was being made in America Japan was working on a 5 chapter movie series directed by Kinji Fukasaku called Battles Without Honor & Humanity. Great series of films for those who like Yakuza stuffs. Fukasaku's Graveyard Of Honor is also a must see if you like the genre.

I have this set and it is very good.

I don't think the point was meant to be they were cool, at all.

Yes. I like them. I think they are overrated as far as being constantly talked about as goat. They are long and sometimes slow.

I've never been able to get through the first one. I'm sure if I get past the hump, perhaps I'd like it, but it's legit impossible for me.

I recently watched them and I liked part 1. I really didn't like part 2 at all. Other than the Robert Deniro part.

But Michael's story in part 2 I thought was boring.

I watched part 3, the coda version and found it hard to enjoy, but still better than part 2.
