I'm gonna eat fish and chips for dinner tonight, probably get some potato cakes as well, maybe some dim sims too.

This might be the dumbest shit ive ever heard. You've never left the UK, and you're making things up.
You are just triggered because there are levels to fish and chips or preferences.

I get it. I get the same way when people compare stone baked vs NY or American Pizza. There are certain things in American pizza that I don't even notice but other people do. The dough and sauce is very sweet to folks who never ate it before. They complain about the orange oil that leaks out of the pizza and I think it's normal.

Damn rights! But I really hate it when its like 70% batter 30% fish. It has to be the other way around for me to truly love it.

Not really.

Yes, fried fish certainly exists and you can get fish and fries here and there. But it's not especially popular.

When I was a kid, there were Arthur Treacher's fish & chips, but they're long gone.
Long John Silver's has fried fish and fries - but they're almost gone, too. And the fish wasn't even their best item anyway.
Friday Night All You Can Eat Fried Fish specials used to be a popular thing, but they seem to be fading away, too.

Friday fish was a holdover from way back when Catholics weren't supposed to eat meat on Fridays. That ended at the end of 1966 in the US.

Depends.

Lager batter. Cod.
Slight mint in the mushy peas
Triple cooked chips

Your favourite recipe?

Potentially my favourite meal with my mum. We'd been to wash her dad's headstone. We sat in the car eating fish and chips with our fingers out of newspaper not sad, just we wanted chish and fips as we called it.

My mother was very posh so eating like that was a lovely treasure moment.

Fish and chips with a couple of fried dimmies and a can of coke

Mmm

Like it yes, eat it regularly hell no, maybe 3 times per year

That’s being in England with a fish and chip shop 3 minutes from my house too

No. I hate the fish shop chips here in the UK, don't like thick / chunky chips and most of the places undercook them as well so they're pale as fuck.

Only french fries for me.

I like it. I know it's extremely unhealthy but I have it as a treat every now and then.

I used to go to a fish & chips place on Gloucester road in south Kensington (London) and the grease factor was high. The batter was thick and I think if I squeezed the piece of battered cod I could probably drain 3 table spoons of oil.

I think a lot of places are using haddock rather than cod because cod is more expensive.

I had it yesterday, wasn't bad, however it wasn't great. But yeah I think it will be 3-4 months or longer before I eat it again. lol

I haven't had it for like 20 years. I go for fish tacos when I want deep fried fish.

I like, I just don't like it when the fish is saturated with oil.

This is very important. Like most foods, you can get very good or VERY bad.

I've had good fish and chips and then you get some of those places with way too much breading and their oil wasn't hot enough where it just tastes and feels like a piece of bread soaked in oil.

A real treat back in the day was fish and chips with gurnard as the fish. The fillets are kinda small, but they taste soo good. Next best was John dory if you could find it. Obligatory potato fritters and crab stick as well. Plus $1 tartare sauce.
