Do you have any debt? If so how much?

my soul.

aka tree pesos.

My father had a life insurance policy which paid for my college tuition and got me my small townhouse and car. Everything else I saved up.

after he passed i started working at his company that he owned (im looking for a new job because i dont want to live in my dads shadow). I appreciate what he did for me, but I need to build my own life for myself. Not work at a company he built

Did you every think that maybe he built that company for your benefit?

Ah, gotcha. No shame in living in his shadow, as he sounded like a successful guy. I'd imagine you were pretty coddled and well off growing up so I'm sorry you had to go through something as terrible as that.
I had a great childhood, both my parents were great and they taught me to always be fortunate with what i have. My brother on the other hand is a shitshow. Blew through all the life insurance money he had and has no future goals, plans, etc. Just asks for money and doesn't work.

Well he and my mom both had successful careers in insurance and quit them to start tthe company, he even said he wanted us to do whatever made us happy (for me its becoming my own person and building my own success)

College tuition, a house and a car are basically the three biggest debts anyone will have in their lifetime. I don't know if you were trying to downplay the contribution your parents made to your lifestyle or not, but those are huge contributions.

I think I'm more surprised that someone on sherdog went to college than anything else.

$500 000 on my house and property
$98 000 0n another property

Recently paid of $90 000 debt to my inlaws

70k student loans for me, 90k for my fiancé. This is gonna be rough once joined

I'm an electrical engineer, she's a middle school counselor. We're hoping to live off my income (including loan minimums, but I don't think we'll be able to pull it off) and use hers for just the student loans to get them away before we're 80

like i said, im extremely fortunate (they were upper middle class), Ive give all the shit up though if it meant my dad didn't pass away

Didn't see your post about the death of your father and the life insurance pay out. Now your financial situation makes more sense. Sorry about your family's loss.

Anyway, to answer the question in the OP:

-mortgage has about $310K owing on it
-unsecured line of credit is presently around $7k
-my car loan has about $4k owing on it
-no credit card debt for me at the moment
-never had student loan debt (thank you mom and dad)
-wife's car loan is around $9k I think
-wife's student loans around $11k I think
-wife's credit card around $3k

My buddy and his wife are in similar situation. He makes 85k and she makes 45k. They were both doing the income based repayment plan but because they combined their income they are no longer able to do that and their monthly payment went through the roof. 130k in student debt combined I think.

I'm lucky, I'll be the first to admit my parents pretty much gave me everything, and as a result, I have no debt.

The one thing I did do myself was earn scholarships throughout school, so I never borrowed from either my parents or took out loans. I inherited a house, and have kept my expenses to a bare minimum regardless of salary increases over time.

Financially I am in a good spot, but if I had to buy a house like most people my age, I would have had minimal savings.

Yeah. If I could do it again I'd have done the first two years at a community college. But what did I know at 18? I stayed on the side of the "you're thouroughly fucked" line as my annual salary is greater than my student loan principle. Fiancé... not so much as she got a masters at a private school and now works in education

Thanks for the well wishes. We'll make it work. Plenty more people out there in worse financial situation than we'll be

Yep. That's pretty similar to me/us. I'm not on income based, so I'm paying the actual minimums. I could throw an extra 3-400 a month at them, but by the time my savings was enough to do that I was in a position to save for an engagement ring. Now saving for wedding. So nothing but minimums for two years

Fiancé is on income based, so hers will shoot up to be more than mine once we combine. I think our minimum monthly for student loans will be over $1200 a month

Not sure we'll ever own a house. Hoping to rent one instead of just apartment living tho

Yea, that’s bumming. I’m on a 10-year $600/mo with my private loans and my federal loans are hovering around $107k. I wasn’t able to get a job after college right away and my private loans shot through the roof. I’m kind of screwed myself and my GF doesn’t make as much as I do. Kinda crazy how trapped I am and there’s really nothing I can do short of winning the lotto. My company pays $65k for masters so I think I’m going to do Cybersecurity. Hopefully it will pay off, but Marriage doesn’t look like a great option from reading your post. The college I went to was incredibly expensive. Probably one of the most in the western part of the United States. But as you said, I was a dumb college student and wasn’t thinking of the ROA which it will never meet. It’s fucking criminal to charge the amount I was charged for a freshman English or Algebra class when the SAME class is $300 down the street at a CC. I can understand upper level classes being more expensive, but really a Freshman English class costs in the $1,000s? If given the chance, I would turn in my degree for a refund and start again in a heartbeat. Doesn’t help living in San Diego as well. APT living my whole life! YOLO!

House: $265,000
