My father had a life insurance policy which paid for my college tuition and got me my small townhouse and car. Everything else I saved up.
after he passed i started working at his company that he owned (im looking for a new job because i dont want to live in my dads shadow). I appreciate what he did for me, but I need to build my own life for myself. Not work at a company he built
I had a great childhood, both my parents were great and they taught me to always be fortunate with what i have. My brother on the other hand is a shitshow. Blew through all the life insurance money he had and has no future goals, plans, etc. Just asks for money and doesn't work.Ah, gotcha. No shame in living in his shadow, as he sounded like a successful guy. I'd imagine you were pretty coddled and well off growing up so I'm sorry you had to go through something as terrible as that.
Well he and my mom both had successful careers in insurance and quit them to start tthe company, he even said he wanted us to do whatever made us happy (for me its becoming my own person and building my own success)Did you every think that maybe he built that company for your benefit?
College tuition, a house and a car are basically the three biggest debts anyone will have in their lifetime. I don't know if you were trying to downplay the contribution your parents made to your lifestyle or not, but those are huge contributions. My father had a life insurance policy which paid for my college tuition and got me my small townhouse and car. like i said, im extremely fortunate (they were upper middle class), Ive give all the shit up though if it meant my dad didn't pass away

I think I'm more surprised that someone on sherdog went to college than anything else.
n, sorry to hear. I hope it all works out for you both70k student loans for me, 90k for my fiancé. This is gonna be rough once joined
I'm an electrical engineer, she's a middle school counselor. We're hoping to live off my income (including loan minimums, but I don't think we'll be able to pull it off) and use hers for just the student loans to get them away before we're 80

My buddy and his wife are in similar situation. He makes 85k and she makes 45k. They were both doing the income based repayment plan but because they combined their income they are no longer able to do that and their monthly payment went through the roof. 130k in student debt combined I think.
Yep. That's pretty similar to me/us. I'm not on income based, so I'm paying the actual minimums. I could throw an extra 3-400 a month at them, but by the time my savings was enough to do that I was in a position to save for an engagement ring. Now saving for wedding. So nothing but minimums for two years
Fiancé is on income based, so hers will shoot up to be more than mine once we combine. I think our minimum monthly for student loans will be over $1200 a month
Not sure we'll ever own a house. Hoping to rent one instead of just apartment living tho
