Do you guys still watch MMA?

Or do you just use the forum?
I watched religiously from 04 to whenever Anderson Silva got pasted by Weidman. Occasionally check up on results.
Yous guys still fans or just use the forum because you made friends here back then and like the format?
I usually just watch the top 2 or 3 fights on PPV. Sometimes I don't even care to remember when a PPV is happening. The spark has long gone. I don't even post in the Heavies anymore. Anecdotal evidence proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that:

UFC is dying.

Mostly just watching main and co-mains unless it's a lady fight. Might actually watch the whole 317 card but not too excited about it. It's really just yr standard PPV from 5 years ago. Seems like owners goal is to spread the brand as thin as possible and then throw it in the trash.

combat sports will always be second to hockey but I haven't been able to watch every card like I used to since the mid 2010s

My interest has been decreasing for a while to the extent that I am thinking cancelling Fight Pass constantly. At the same time i am watching old school Pride and UFC events.

I skip most current fights while I Used to watch everything.

Absolutely, though it’s not a main focus anymore like it was. Not too many fighters have gotten me interested in following it as closely as I once did.

Been watching for about 30 years and cannot imagine ever totally giving it up

I keep up with it. But it's been saturated and boring for the last year or so. The few live events that I did watch this year weren't very good

I watch with my son now which is even better. We also watch old fights on Youtube. There are no more HUGE draws and names like in the heyday, but the quality of fights is usually good. We have gone to a few live fights, but the prices are insane now.

I watched from about 93-95 and then from 2008 to 2018ish.

  • Watered down quality
  • Midgets and women that I don't care about
  • Way too many fighters to keep track of
  • Manufactured social media feuds
  • Dana being an unlikable dick
  • Fighters getting a pathetic sliver of revenue
  • Bad scoring and too much pointfighting
  • Drug testing becoming a joke
  • Weight cutting becoming one of the most important skills
  • Fighters all becoming well-rounded led to more boring fights
  • Better orgs losing and getting bought out because the UFC had too much headstart, money, recognition to beat

I'll still follow it, like read the play by play, and go to the Heavies at the risk of getting dumber, but I no longer try to watch the events live. From 2007 to about 2015 I tried to watch all the major PPVs, be it at bars or pitching in to buy the PPV (and even sometimes streaming to piss off Dana).

The sport has changed so much. Everyone is so well rounded that the narrative of style vs style rarely matters. This is why Poatan is so exciting because he's still a kickboxer at the core. Also the promotion has gotten so generic and boring. No longer are fighters gradually built up and get their deserved shots, but now it's so fake social media beef and underserved rematches. Plus the product is getting overly saturated

I agree that everyone got so well rounded nowadays. Back then, it was really a battle of the styles.

I used to watch every PPV, but since 2021, i've rarely watched an event...but i do keep up.

I do like these forums though.

2005ish to around 2015 for me as far as watching everything. It was a beautiful period. It was not hard to find MMA to watch but there was still this magic of discovery. Just look at WEC that was on basic cable. You could flip the channel in 2008 and see this young dude named Jose icing dudes. Everything was still raw and exciting.

Ended up here because most people I knew didn't watch or care so after an event I'd read an article on here and eventually wandered into the forum to have some folks to talk MMA with.

Also, though I didn't know him personally (I may have called in or sent questions), Jordan Breen felt like an MMA friend when those were hard to come by. So while not related directly to my watching now.... his death feels like a coffin nail in what MMA used to be for me.

Now it's mainstream, Dana is just an asshole (not the guy we called an asshole but sometimes liked for defending our thing) and besides a few guys... the fighters just seem the same, say the same shit and are just generally less interesting.

Haven't watched since UFC 192. Just fell out of it. Don't really have a want to get back into it.

This thread pops up a lot

I think Joanna last fight was the last time I watched a live event . Still go back and watch old fights some days from the early days of ufc and pride . But that’s once in a blue moon and mostly watch old boxing fights … I watch more boxing then mma now .

Yes. But I'm watching less and less of the prelims these days. I'm just not as emotionally invested in the fighters as I used to be either.
