Do you give any chance to Stipe

I give him a decent chance. He was a world beater 1 ko ago. Guess it depends on how much he's been training which I have no idea.

Apparently many people don't understand the technical violence that Stipe is capable of. He's a very good boxer with really hard kicks. He also has a champion mindset with killer instinct.

Poor Jones, he would never get the credit he deserves if he were to beat Stipe, and when Stipe squashes Jones everyone will say Jones was never that good. This is Jon's fight, not the fans.

His reflexes didn't look good in his last fight, but Jones has always struggled with competent strikers his height with close enough reach, even Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes (Gane gave him an easy takedown so obviously that doesn't count).

He has a small chance. I mean jones can walk into a punch or something but I honestly believe this is a tune up fight for bones.

You'd think folks would have learned by now.

Look at what just happened with Izzy vs Sean.

Whaaaaa… this is a legit fight. Maybe would have been more relevant a few years ago but it’s still compelling for many reasons;

Stipe is the most successful HW ever in MMA history (fedoras career is more compelling, a better watch, just a more interesting character but in terms of pure analytics Stipe has him beat.)

Stipe keeps himself in good shape, has only been knocked out twice (and after the most recent and savage one he took a good long time off) trains smart, and of course it’s the HW division and more importantly combat sports science has progressed such that, if the genetics and hunger are there being a shade over 40 actually has some benefits such as knowing one’s body more, more advanced technique, knowing the game more. IMO decline in physicality is negated by these intangibles. A lot of 40-45 year old savages competing in BJJ and holding their own against 20 year olds (cyborg for instance. BJJ is my point of reference)

I know on here MMAth is like, a super cringe faux pass, but look at JBJ and Micheal Stipe’s - always secretly wished that would be his NN lol - common opponent. Their 2 wins against him are quite similar in duration and finish (I haven’t watched the 4 fights in years and freely admit those analytics were just from memory and Wikipedia. The intangibles from the fights themselves I’ll admit are absent from my argument)

Stipe is just naturally a larger man than Jones. His bones structure, skeletal muscle, where he Carrie’s fat, the size of his neck and the width of it snd same for his head are larger than Johns. I repeat he’s just naturally the larger man. Even if John were juiced to the gills the body dimensions would still look like a LHW vs a HW (I’ve used PEDS the last 7 years and quite understand the difference between someone who has bulked up to 240 lbs and someone who just naturally walks around at that weight. Again, things like wrist size, head size, shins, hands, feet tell a more complete story. big biceps and muscles bellies - which John doesn’t even have - compared to someone with a naturally thicker humorous bone, the tendons and ligaments attached, the skeletal muscle closest to the bone, shoulder girdle tells who the bigger man really is)

IMO we got a ballgame here. I Slightly favor Bones to win via being more naturally skilled and more talented of an athlete, and am rooting for him just as a Fan, but all these people who think John is just gonna blow him out… at the risk of sounding elitist, sound like people who have never worked out of trained seriously in a combat sport OR are just trying to sound breezy and hip with their overtly confident hot takes. Stipe hits a LOT fuckin harder too, I mean dude TKO’d Hunt in the 5th round, and this was while Hunt was in his tactical/cardiovascular/proper training prime. Walk off KOing everyone.

Finallt, I know a few people who train/trained with Michael Stipe (midwestern grappling/BJJ scene) and although you’d NEVER know based on his fights, he is a MONSTER grappler. Mopping the floor with legit BJJ BB after BB. All no gi. I asked a legit (albeit corny as HELL) lower level submission grappler - one of those guys who is gonna invert and go for a heel hook right off the jump - and he basically laughed at me for even implying that Stipe doesn’t smash everyone when it comes time to roll, body after body.

sorry for the long post but I can’t wait for this fight.

Most heavyweight title wins in the UFC, probably has a huge chip on his shoulder. People are counting him out in his own division and he hasn't fought since his father died so he's probably coming in motivated and looking to prove something.

But you're right, he has no chance. We might as well just put Ronda in there instead.

Jones wins a pretty easy decision, most likely. Not really seeing too many other ways the fight could go.
Could be a rare chance for jones to get a finish. You know good and well Stipes knees can't be that healthy from all the toll of fire, wrestling, mma etc

Have you seen Stipe's legs? They are like oak trees.

For real dog! These people are just mind boggling. And their motivations for having these takes are based on these weird mental gymnastics and having more to do with like, spirited hatred for a fighter as opposed to being die hard fans of the opponent. The kind of fans who say/think stuff like “Jones for a FACT lost to Reyes. The official W does not matter, he lost”

Graduates from the same school of “fighter X’s wins are unimpressive.” … and proceed to discredit each win with stuff like “he was out of his prime. He had a short training camp. He was on gear for that win”

Punchers chance for sure, but if he plays a point game, he will lose. It all depends on how well his grappling/TDD will be.

Yeah but how's Jon going to finish him? He's not a KO puncher and even at his age Stipe isn't Gane who's just going to get taken down and subbed.
