I work for a hospital. I'm getting one every year whether I want to or not.

I think I've only gotten one flu shot ever. It was for one of those named flus(?), like bird flu or pig flu or whatever it was.

Yes, every year. Herd immunization is a real thing, and it's important to do.

I only did once when my daughter was born because I had to.

I don't get them cause I don't trust them .... I never get sick anyway and how much mercury is involved???

If I want that much mercury in my body I'll just bust open a thermometer and drink that and call it a flu shot.

Especially to guard from genetically altered virus' which shouldn't even be able to effect a human being.

Got a kid so I can't afford for either of us to get the flu. I plan on getting it every year from now on.

Yes. I used to not do it until I got the flu one year. Been a believer ever since.

This post is so full of ignorance it makes me doubt you know much about the subject.

No. Never even heard of such a thing until recently. I've had the flu before more than once. I get over it.

Flu shots don't protect against every strain anyway, do they?

Once something is claimed, some people will believe it forever and no amount of logical discussion or proof will be enough for them.

Nope I iust drink a lot of nasty wheat grass . Rarely get sick

Clippy!!!

I've had like two flu shots since I was 12, and both were over a decade ago.

Just for those who might benefit from the notion: simply because you haven't gotten sick doesn't mean you won't, or that your relative health is a permanent thing... "I've never gotten the flu before so why do I need the shot?" is meritless reasoning.

There's this one girl at my work who gets sick like every 3 months i don't understand .

Flu shots do not protect against all strains. The CDC makes an educated guess as to which strains are going to be around and that is what they inoculate against. It is possible that flu shots do increase immunity to strains that were not specifically targeted. You can look on the CDC's website to see which strains are currently targeted, and the success rate of past years.

Flu vaccines are designed to protect against the main flu viruses that research suggests will be the most common during the upcoming season. Three kinds of flu viruses commonly circulate among people today: influenza A (H1N1) viruses, influenza A (H3N2) viruses, and influenza B viruses.

All of the 2015-2016 influenza vaccine is made to protect against the following three viruses:

  • an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus
  • an A/Switzerland/9715293/2013 (H3N2)-like virus
  • a B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus. (This is a B/Yamagata lineage virus)
Some of the 2015-2016 flu vaccine is quadrivalent vaccine and also protects against an additional B virus (B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus). This is a B/Victoria lineage virus.
