Do you folks believe in the health and wellness benefits of Tai Chi and Qi Gong?

The scientific literature is robust enough, and I'd rather get into Tai Chi and Qi Gong than yoga and zen meditation. It seems to me that all four will give me a mental health and wellness boost, but the two former will also have the effect of making me look like a badass.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you.

Anything that gets you moving is good in my books, I've never done anything of the sort but I do shadow wrestle regularly which I guess is kind of the same.

I think anything promoting mobility & flexibility is good. Meditation.....meh, I guess some people are into it but it's not something I've ever felt the need for.

Both of you... Spoken like true combat beasts. Take that as a compliment or an insult. It's up to the both of you. lol

I guess I'm just superstitious or something, but I do believe in woowoo spirits and chakra manipulation, as long as you rely primarily on your physical strength and technique as the stuff that'll make you win fights. Instead of invisible fireballs.

Seems pretty relaxing, once I'm old enough they will probably be my go-to exercises. Hell, I'll probably recommend it to my inlaws

Meditation is great especially focusing on correct breathing and emptying your mind and thoughts, it helps your brain from overloading and also helps with stress management. Now you can't compare it to physical exercise, it's just completely different in terms of well being.

I did Tai Chi a long, long time ago. I found it very relaxing. Especially outside on a nice summer's day.

I used to think it's useless. Now that I'm older and plagued with injuries I think the mobility and flexibility it provides would be a great plus.

I'm thinking of supplementing my fitness and martial arts training with it but I haven't jumped the gun yet.

One aspect that REALLY interests me is the breathing techniques of Qi Gong and Tai chi. I tried some once from a guy that told me I would be able to instantly do more pushups I'd I breathe a certain way. I did his thing and he was right. Pretty damn impressive.

Mastering breathing techniques can also allow you to dissipate stress and sleep more easily. Hell I might jump the gun and really try it this year.

I find breathing is the main thing with all these wellness type activities.
Yoga involves breath, Tai chi involves breath, meditation involves breath.
It's the same with ice baths with the current obsession with them. The main benefit(IMO) is the fact you take a period where you don't have a phone or any other distractions and have to focus on your breathing to manage the cold.

Every exercise has health and wellness benefits

Cold baths/breathing exercises /meditation are something you do if you want to waste time.

I just do grapist yoga. I hate the guy and the branding but it's so fucking easy to do for a dude. Some other yoga flow too much and I am just like I am going to break my neck if I try to post on my head.

What is that?
