Do you fear public speaking?

Overall no, but there is still that anxiety about looking dumb. I “ummm” A LOT.

Done it several times over the years
No fear, more a bit nervous.

I do it for a living. I am doing a presentation in early November in front of a few hundred peers. When I prepare for these things, every opportunity I role play it in my head. In the shower, in the car, in front of my family. By the time I actually do the presentation, it's automatic. Get my threads dry cleaned, my hair cut, hot shave, and I am ready like freddy.

I did before I took multiple public speaking courses in college. I'm good now.

I'm an introvert, and generally quiet around those I do not know, so it's not a position I would usually seek out.

Its complicated. In front of a friendly audience I can say anything in front of a hostile one I can't and get brain freeze.

First minute or so is FUCKING hard, no matter how many times I've done it I always get anxious, once I warmed up though it's pretty easy.

Used to do it multiple times a week to crowds of people before COVID lockdown had a few years off and last month I did it for the first time and almost choked doing a simple 30 second introduction for our guest speaker

Yes, very much so. I'd rather skydive or swim with great white sharks than do public speaking.

You would rather skydive? Seriously?{<huh}

I've been doing it forever so I enjoy it. Didn't like it at the beginning like most people.

After a while, you reach a certain point where you especially enjoy speaking in front of a crowd that either isn't interested or disagrees with you. Take really long pauses and look directly in their eyes. Lots of fun once you have the confidence.

I have to do it everyday, so at this point I am on auto-pilot. The only time I ever get nervous is if I am doing live television - I have a intense fear of becoming an internet meme, so I get some butterflies if I am in front of a live camera.

bright lights and camera >.< the worst

I used to and then I took a course on public speaking and even though I was initially apprehensive, it completely changed my outlook on it. Now, it doesn’t bother me at all and I give presentations at work regularly.

I guess it's just a matter of exposure, the more you do it. The more comfortable and confident you become.

Yeah definitely. It also helps with accepting the fact that you're not perfect and will make mistakes. You'll start to worry less about what people think about you. There are a lot of benefits to practicing public speaking.

It isn't something I enjoy but if need be I'm able to do public speaking.

My father on the other hand seems to love speaking to crowds. He is good at it, so I can see why he enjoys it.
