Do You Consider Benson 'Smooth' Henderson Boring or Not?

I wouldn't say boring. I'd say he is extremely frustrating to watch.

I'm a fan. He's not boring, at all. But he somehow keeps "Winning" fights that he really lost.

2nd fight with Edgar, Gilbert, and now Thomson.

i'm pretty sure i'm just a guy with an opinion like everyone else.

all that ego shit only exists in your own head, so maybe you should just deal with your own weird hang ups.

:icon_lol: How can you sit behind your keyboard and say Henderson is not a fighter when he has been at or near the top of his sport for nearly six years now?

Give him someone lower ranked and watch a beautiful massacre.

I liked him at first but it's just too many fights without a finish. I am not a fan of champions that can't finish ANYONE.

I understand you are fighting the best guys but these guys get finished against the other top guys.

Something about Bendo's style or his ability helps cause these styles of fights.

Not a fan of that. I don't think he is truly boring but I am not fan so since there are only two choices ... I picked boring but my real answer would be "meh" or indifferent to his fights, not boring but not fun either.

I kinda fell asleep during his past 2 fights so...I'd say yes...but, he's a great fighter, just like GSP.

That he is ... great fighter but can't say I am excited to see him fight other than the fact that the title is on the line more so than him as a fighter.

He is an incredible hard worker, a great athlete, very smart, and a fantastic weight cutter.

He uses these elements to out physically endeavor his opponents, making sure the fight stays busy with as little real fighting taking place as possible. In an entertainment sport like mma with a safety rule set, the best way to win is not to fight but to simply be a better athlete. Henderson's success is an unfortunate symptom of this flaw.

I like Bendo and i don't think he is boring. I don't really understand the hate he gets around here

The majority of his fights have been good. Not barnburners or beatdowns like against Diaz or Pettis, but usually good contests with a high pace.

I also don't view him as a point fighter, just watch his GnP when he gets to unload, or his kicks.

Not one of my favs, am not a fan of power wrestlers who muscle guys around to make up for technical deficiencies, but I look fighters as a sum of their fights rather than picking 1 or 2 snoozers in their career and describing them based on those few bad ones.

I see you have Shields in your signature. Do you consider him more of a fighter than Benson?

Yes, and I'll tell you why I feel they are different. Jake has a lot of decisions because he has a grappling based skill set, which while not as flashy as striking is still a fighting skill and the means by which he fights and wins. Unlike Bendo, he doesn't win simply by being the strongest or biggest or having the best cardio or stalling or wearing out his opponents. He is skilled at grappling and he pursues that as hard as possible.

Also, by all measures with this particular style, fighting in a much tougher and heavier division than Benderson has ever been in, Shields should have a lot more decisions than Henderson. Though he does over all, he also has been in 37 fights compared to Benson's 23. He's also never had a streak of decisions as long as Bendo's seven. Let that sink in. It is very, very telling, IMO. Further, Shields currently holds wins over half the top ten in his weight class and is arguably the third best welterweight in the history of the sport. Meanwhile, Bendo arguably isn't even the fourth best lightweight fighting currently in the UFC.

Shields is disgustingly underrated right now, and that more than anything is why he's in my sig.

I don't like him personally and I don't like a lot of his fights but he is not a boring fighter

His style lends itself to be boring when combined with another fighter who also lacks power and has elite takedown defence (Gilbert, Josh, Frankie)

When Bendo can get on top or when his opponent is aggressive his fighters can be exciting (Jim Miller, Nate Diaz)

I've never liked the guy but after his last fight I'm almost starting to feel bad for him. It's not his fault the judges are blind and have a serious hard on for him. IMO he should be 1-4 in his last 5 but he keeps rolling the dice and winning and until he doesn't who can really tell him he shouldn't?

Boring, not at all.

But you can bet your bottom dollar that he ain't going to finish a fight.

Pettit beating him has BY FAR been the most exciting thing to happen in a Bendo fight in years.

Well he recently won against Maia who I always considered to be the #1 grappler in the UFC. Add that to his already impressive resume and you begin to wonder how anyone can call him underrated.

That being said, Shields still had bouts which were more boring to me then some of Benson's.

I kind of see what you're trying to say though. My take on it is that he's a point fighter and there's nothing he can really do about it. He likely won't finish you on the feet and he likely won't finish you on the ground. Roller and Cerrone being exceptions of course.

But I feel bad faulting him for anything really or even going so far as not calling him a "fighter" - he does his best in overwhelming his opponents in regards to control and aggression to win with the judges.

Fighters with killer instinct are the most fun to watch, but they don't always make it in the UFC because of two reasons:

1) Losing to the judges who go by the current silly point system we have.

2) Being cut by Dana...who ironically bases his cuts on ludicrous decision losses...which he's so against himself.

Those are all very good points. I guess I'm a little harsh on Bendo because I'm such a big Pettis fan and it was so shitty to have to sit through Bendo's title run and championship while the real champ had to work his way up.

He's not the most exciting fighter on the roster but I wouldn't say he's boring. Idk, seems like his style has changed more recently though.
