i'm pretty sure i'm just a guy with an opinion like everyone else.
all that ego shit only exists in your own head, so maybe you should just deal with your own weird hang ups.
Some professional Mixed Martial Artists are fighters, some are athletes. Some are both and some are neither.
I kinda fell asleep during his past 2 fights so...I'd say yes...but, he's a great fighter, just like GSP.
:icon_lol: How can you sit behind your keyboard and say Henderson is not a fighter when he has been at or near the top of his sport for nearly six years now?
I see you have Shields in your signature. Do you consider him more of a fighter than Benson?
Yes, and I'll tell you why I feel they are different. Jake has a lot of decisions because he has a grappling based skill set, which while not as flashy as striking is still a fighting skill and the means by which he fights and wins. Unlike Bendo, he doesn't win simply by being the strongest or biggest or having the best cardio or stalling or wearing out his opponents. He is skilled at grappling and he pursues that as hard as possible.
Also, by all measures with this particular style, fighting in a much tougher and heavier division than Benderson has ever been in, Shields should have a lot more decisions than Henderson. Though he does over all, he also has been in 37 fights compared to Benson's 23. He's also never had a streak of decisions as long as Bendo's seven. Let that sink in. It is very, very telling, IMO. Further, Shields currently holds wins over half the top ten in his weight class and is arguably the third best welterweight in the history of the sport. Meanwhile, Bendo arguably isn't even the fourth best lightweight fighting currently in the UFC.
Shields is disgustingly underrated right now, and that more than anything is why he's in my sig.
Well he recently won against Maia who I always considered to be the #1 grappler in the UFC. Add that to his already impressive resume and you begin to wonder how anyone can call him underrated.
That being said, Shields still had bouts which were more boring to me then some of Benson's.
I kind of see what you're trying to say though. My take on it is that he's a point fighter and there's nothing he can really do about it. He likely won't finish you on the feet and he likely won't finish you on the ground. Roller and Cerrone being exceptions of course.
But I feel bad faulting him for anything really or even going so far as not calling him a "fighter" - he does his best in overwhelming his opponents in regards to control and aggression to win with the judges.
Fighters with killer instinct are the most fun to watch, but they don't always make it in the UFC because of two reasons:
1) Losing to the judges who go by the current silly point system we have.
2) Being cut by Dana...who ironically bases his cuts on ludicrous decision losses...which he's so against himself.
