Do you believe Rory MacDonald??????

GSP has 7 defenses.. I think he has his eye on 10.. After that GSP will be around 33 and go up to MW for maybe 2 or 3 years he will go after the MW title before he retires..

you could be right ... legacy is big with Georges. I can see him doing well against any MW (I think he can defeat Silva) but he would take damage even in winning. He would be very small comparatively in that weight class and I think his health is very important to him.

I was surprised by how much influence Mike Ricci has over Rory. That sort of tells me that Rory's still at a phase in his life where he needs role models and needs the approval of those around him. At some point, he's going to grow out of that and want to become his own man, and that's when he's going to want to demand to fight for a title.

It seemed like Jones-Rashad had a similar scenario. Jones came in really young and looked up to Rashad. He stole Rashad's entrance, stole his wardrobes, etc. That behavior is really indicative that he was still a pup in the early on at Jacksons, and being a pup is what allowed him to make that agreement that he'd never fight Rashad. But he developed so fast that he outgrew that phase way quicker than anticipated.

By this time next year, Rory could be on a 7 fight win streak. He's not going to be a pup at that point.

He is not ready for GSP.. His TDD is suspect.. His striking looks great but GSP right now puts him down and beats him up.. I think he knows this from training.. I think it is a non-issue for 3 or 4 more fights..

Agreed. And since Dong Hyun Kim has already expressed an interest in fighting Rory, this is the fight that I would like to see for him next (If he didn't already have that upcoming fight with Condit). This way we could have a better idea of just how good his TDD is.

He is rising fast but he's not quite ready for GSP and he knows it. They're friends, GSP will retire or move up when Rory's time comes.

Rory MacDonald....love him or hate him is a rising star in the UFC.
If Rory can beat Condit he is probably another win or two away from a possible title shot. He claims he would never fight GSP, but if he got the chance do you think he would leave Tristar and accept the fight?
You never know how long GSP could hold the title for and basically cause Rory to wait around for him to lose the title.
I guess we will possibly see what happens.

I think Rory will end up at 185lb and my prediction is that he actually ends up being the one who fights Silva -- Not GSP.

Well if he keeps winning the way he has until now, a title shot is inevitable.
I don't know what his plan is if that happens, surely he don't count on himself losing, and the point of fighting is that you eventually want to be champion.

Rory is in the perfect position. He can claim with semi-good reason that he doesn't want the fight, so he can't get pressured into taking it right now, which is good, because he knows he can't win. But as GSP gets older, and Rory gets better, he can always go back on his word and fight GSP WHEN he thinks he can win the fight.

GSP wrecks Diaz, then Hendricks, then Silva, then retires.

Then Rory steps up.

It depends on how long GSP will stay at WW I think. If GSP is still the WW champ towards end of 2013 I could imagine Rory would be impatient if he gets past Condit and another top 5 fighter. I'm really starting to wonder if GSP isn't thinking about that superfight against Anderson Silva after Diaz, it seems like he feels he has unfinished business there and really wanted Diaz ASAP, maybe because he's leaving WW after that?

I don't think they would ever fight GSP and Rory, he's what 23? he has a long future ahead of him no need to be greedy and want a title shot now, especially against a guy he looks up to and is good friends with who happen to train together, Rory will have his day, but he shouldn't be looking past Condit

With this cocky "heel" persona he seems to be developing, I think were he to be the number 2 WW, he'd jump up to MW and Sonnen himself into a MW title shot.

"You want to fight someone smaller than you, Anderson Silva. Well, here I am. Fight me."

I really think Rory takes this fight against Condit. Condit is a beast, a pure killer, but I just think that Rory is advancing faster than Condit. I could be totally wrong, but Condit seems to have peaked.

I think Sonnen would beat him though.

Rory could potentially have had fights at 205lb by the time he is in his 30s. I wouldn't be surprised, he's a big guy.

...this is a fair assessment. I think GSP fights Diaz, then the winner of Hendricks/Ellenberger and then Silva and retire as champion - a healthy multi-millionaire. Rory will be ready by then to take the WW title and soon move up to MW.

You are correct sir. No doubt in my mind that this is the plan... 3-4 more fight then GSP retire... thats what GSP and his manager are subtly making us understand lately

I'm excited for this fight, but it is really awkward... for both of them.

If Rory wins, he gets placed into the upper echelons of the welterweight division
